I've never started a thread on this board before. I thought I'd start one about my boy Danny. He's shooting 70% from 3pt range in the NBA Finals, and averaging 18.7 points per game.
In case you didn't know those of us back in Tar Heel land simply refer to him as DMFG, which is short for what I typed in the title.

Danny Green may be a legit candidate for Finals MVP should the Spurs win.
Really, is there any Spur who has contributed more in this series up to this point? Other than Kawhi Leonard.
First Steve Kerr, then Robert Horry...

Damn it, people need to stop saying that. Leonard's played great defense on James, but he's not the star (even defensively) that people are making him out to be. Save a few moments tonight, he's actually been pretty bad on team defense, and he gets a lot of help on James. I love his rebounding, but his lack of consistent scoring and strong team defense put him at a pretty distant second to Green as far as series impact so far.
Not only is Green doing work on offense, but I actually like the way he's playing James more than the way Leonard is. I don't think Kawhi's gotten into James' head, but I do think Danny has. He's made about a dozen incredible plays when matched-up one on one with Lebron, and I don't think James can get his head around that. He still sees Green as the player who got cut after one season with Cleveland, who never played when Lebron was there, even though the guard rotation there left a lot to be desired. You could tell that in Game 1 when you saw how he looked at Green when matched up with him in the post. When Green blocked James' attempt to force a jump ball, Lebron pointed to Danny as if to say, "I'm jumping against him? This'll be easy." Then James tipped the ball out of bounds. Save two moments, Green has really had James' number, and I think that's disconcerting for him. You can even see it in how he pushes Green around in the post now compared to in Game 1.
Bill Walton said in Game 6 of the 2003 WCSF against the Lakers that Duncan proved he was the MVP by taking on Shaq. He said that other players could look at their men and say, "If Duncan can take Shaq, I can take this guy." That's what being the most valuable player is all about. Green so far in the series has shown the Spurs that he can take Lebron on both ends. If that's not worthy of the MVP, I don't know what is.

Amazing performance so far. Danny Green really looks like a professional basketball player. What a transition from last year's playoff series vs OKC. Since Jackson was waived, Green has really come to life. I'm so happy for his growth in the Spurs system. He really looks like he belongs and he has some great confidence. He, Kawhi and Duncan are anchoring the defense superbly and DG's shooting stroke is awesome. 2 more games.......I think the Heat will have to decide whether or not to include him in their defensive plan.
Go Spurs!

Great post from Chinook.. but he'll never be loved, or valued as much as Kawhi by the fanbase. we want Kawhi to be the future star and carry the franchise. Green is just playing well in our eyes. and to be unfairly honest, that thunder series makes us feel owed. Danny Green is simply replaying debts.

But a small selfish part of me wants this to go 7 games so Danny could put that record out of reach.
Of course Danny would be the first to tell you the record doesn't matter, and all he cares about is that trophy.

He's really starting to get media respect. He has a chance if he has a big closeout game (Tuesday or Thursday). Another 20-point outing would be about what he needs. His defense on James and Wade is also getting notice. If anything, he's much more likely than Leonard to get the award now.

Watching Spoelstra's reactions on the heat bench in game 3 had me laughing so hard I could barely breathe.
First 3: Spo: Can't see him..
Second 3: Spo: Squatting with a wistful instense look that says "I'm into this", as Green rears up for his shot, Spo immediately rises out of his squat, ball goes through, he clearly doubletakes as if to say "Are you effing serious???". Shoots a dagger glare back at Green. Places hands on hips.
Third 3: Spo: Now simply standing with hands on hips, disgusted look.. Green cuts toward Spo in his corner, Spo flinches in fear, ball rotates to Green, BANG! As the shot goes through, Green falls backward (probably fouled) and Spo steps backward as if being repelled by Green's proximity. Looks to be visibly afraid of Green. :lmao
Fourth 3: Spo: Now sitting shoulders hunched forward, hands clasped together. Dulled/muted expression to his face. Doesn't flinch this time as Green drains yet another. As Green heads back on defense, its as if Spo has one last surge of electricity foment through his body which causes his head to swivel whip Green another icy dagger look. Kind of reminded me of Linda Blair in 'The Exorcist'...
Fifth 3: Spo: Same position with shoulders hunched forward but slighly slouching in seat, hands clasped but now pointing toward the floor almost in defeat. As Green knocks in #5, there is no flinch, no head whip, just what appears to be a slight nodding of the head as if to say "Yah, ya, ya..".
Sixth 3: Spo: Now slouching back quite a bit in seat, arms folded together defiantly, no movement except eyes watching the ball go up and through for Green's 6th...
7th 3: Spo: Still in slouch position in his seat (which looks funny as hell next to the tall guy sitting next to him), still little to no expressions or flinching on Green's 7th, trying to appear calm but hands rubbing together as if they have just developed an acute case of tourette's.
