The Spurs are ratings killers. You guys can make excuses but it's clear that the rest of the world doesn't give a fuck about the Spurs and their boring basketball. I'm cheering for you guys to beat the cHeat but I'm worried for the league if the Spurs win another championship.

Lakersfan nation has a lot more to worry about than Duncan matching Kirby's 5 rings. Such as getting to 40 wins next season once Dwight bolts.

This may be the best of both worlds.

The Spurs beating the Heat, AND the game getting low ratings. That is going to make certain people unhappy.

Bingo. As I said there is no such thing as a Miami Heat fan. Most Lebron bandwagoners have already jumped ship.

Still game 4 will have very good ratings as its a possibl funeral for Miami big 3

Why the fuck should we care? It's not our fault that most people are idiots with no taste in basketball.

If anything, we should be proud to have low TV ratings, because that means we don't attract idiots. Being liked by most people is not a good thing.

Shoogie, have you been living under a rock or something? The Lakers haven't played for months! That shitty team barely made the playoffs, and got utterly raped by our Spurs in the first round. I mean, how could you possibly forget how we utterly embarrassed that horribly shitty team? I don't get it, even people that don't follow the NBA know know that this year's Lakers were the most embarrassing failure in the history of professional sports. And you thought this fucking joke of a team was still playing in June? This fucking joke of a team? This pathetic, laughable, ridiculously bad team? This team that will most likely be a lottery team for the foreseeable future? This team that even Lakerfan knows was a fucking joke? Shoogie, Shoogie, Shoogie.

NBA Finals rule TV ratings; NBC's 'The Voice' limps to a finish
http://www.cleveland.com/tv/index.ssf/2013/06/nba_finals_rule_tv_ratings_nbc.html

Associated Press entertainment staff By Associated Press entertainment staff
on June 12, 2013 at 7:48 AM, updated June 12, 2013 at 7:56 AM

NEW YORK (AP) — Despite being set up to shine, "The Voice" is limping to its finish.

NBC's most popular show, approaching its season finale next week, had 11.3 million viewers for its Monday edition last week and 10.9 million on Tuesday. Both were enough to rank them within the Nielsen company's top six shows for the week.

Still, the two editions were below their averages for the season, even more among younger viewers. The show peaked at more than 14 million viewers in mid-April.

It's not as if NBC's rivals offered elite competition. CBS aired reruns both nights. Fox showed its fading summer franchise "So You Think You Can Dance" and Charlie Sheen's "Anger Management," which had cable-like numbers (1.7 million viewers on Monday). ABC offered its popular "The Bachelorette" on Monday and a weight loss show the next night.

So why isn't "The Voice" doing better? With warm weather, television viewership typically declines. The early part of "The Voice" season, with the blind auditions, is popular and is the gimmick that sets it apart from others in the genre.

NBC surely doesn't want to contemplate another possible explanation: that the series has peaked and viewers are tiring of it.

The network did win one important competition last week: An original episode of "Revolution" had 6.2 million viewers, while the debut of ABC's "Mistresses" in the same time slot had 4.4 million.

ABC won the week in prime time, averaging 6 million viewers behind the strength of the first two games of the NBA Finals. CBS was a close second, with 5.9 million viewers, NBC had 5.6 million, Fox had 3.27 million, Univision had 3.26 million, Telemundo had 1.7 million, ION Television had 1.4 million and the CW had 750,000.

TNT was the week's most popular cable network, averaging 2.9 million viewers in prime time. USA had 2.8 million, the Disney Channel had 2.3 million, History had 2.1 million and Fox News Channel had 1.9 million.

NBC's "Nightly News" topped the evening newscasts with an average of 7.5 million viewers. ABC's "World News" was second with 7 million and the "CBS Evening News" had 5.7 million viewers.

For the week of June 3-9, the top 10 shows, their networks and viewerships: NBA Finals: San Antonio vs. Miami (Sunday), ABC, 14.57 million; NBA Finals: San Antonio vs. Miami (Thursday), ABC, 14.24 million;
NBA Playoffs: Indiana vs. Miami (Monday), TNT, 11.57 million; "The Voice" (Monday), NBC, 11.29 million; "America's Got Talent" (Tuesday), NBC, 11.22 million; "The Voice" (Tuesday), NBC, 10.87 million; "The Big Bang Theory," CBS, 9.4 million; "60 Minutes," CBS, 9.3 million; "NCIS," CBS, 8.94 million; NCIS: Los Angeles," CBS, 7.88 million.

San Antonio 1.5 million people...LA 8 million people....of course ratings are lower.

But but but everyone loves Lebron :cry

Lebron is not organic. From day one, he's been too concerned about his image to be "real". Everything is too calculated. He's fake tough (acts all beast but flops everywhere), fake clutch (goes ham only after the game is already decided), fake caring (the "decision" was for the kids :cry).

Nobody believes he even knows who he is. you can't fake that stuff. People see right through it. Not saying the dude can't ball, just saying.

What the OP fail to post is that it was only .4 from last year and last night was World Cup qualifying as well. Alot of my friends from latin american countries, who are basketball fans, were watching US, Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico play along with all the South American countries playing Tuesday night.

I was flipping between the US and Spurs game as well. Believe it or not, but soccer, especially the World Cup ,which the final has average 1 billion veiwers the past 4 WCs, is more popular than Basketball.

Blame the NBA...Tony Bruno once said....the reason for low ratings is because the NBA marketed Stars from big and small franchises
I think due to the advent of a bunch of cable channels...ratings are low because there is more variety....in the 1980 and 1990....cable was still analog...people decide not to watch now because there is so much crap on TV now....ad social media to the mix too. It dosent help that the NBA is in bed with ESPN.....there is always gonna be a biased opinion (gospel to big market teams hell to small markets)....and bad commentators who shout....just make it unwatchable.... The TNT crew do a much better job.

Homeland Security
06-13-2013, 08:41 AM
If the Grizzlies had made the Finals I know I might not have found that very compelling -- small market team, no marketable stars, etc. I don't see why that should have diminished the experience for Memphis fans. Ratings are not the important thing here. The Pacers would have had a similar issue. OKC does not because Durant and Westbrook are highly marketable.

The other dynamic with San Antonio is that it is one of those markets that will have some national disdain because of its reputation/demographics, and so some people will scrunch up their nose at watching a franchise from that city. People who have hang-ups with cities like Memphis or New Orleans because of the black people likely would never watch the NBA Finals under any circumstances anyway regardless of the matchup, so there is no ratings differentiator there. But cities like San Antonio (Hispanics) or Salt Lake City (Mormons) would have that differentiator.

The way I hear that expressed is by people who say something along the lines that they won't watch the Spurs because they don't think a city like that "deserves" to have a good team or to have Tim Duncan.

I think deep down many Spurs fans, especially Hispanics, know that has something to do with the national rejection of the team, which is why it is an irritant.
