View Full Version : If the Spurs win Game 5 ...

Would Popovich dare sit the Big 3 in Game 6 to give them 3 full days of rest before a winner-take-all game? I say this because the Sunday-Tuesday-Thursday schedule will be really tough on the older Spurs players, especially Tim. Three days of rest for the Big 3 before Game 7 could be the difference between winning and losing.
Pop gambled big-time sitting Tim down the stretch of the clinching game against Golden state, and the gamble paid off. Even though this was done for tactical reasons rather than rest, I wonder if Pop would be willing to raise the stakes by resting his stars in Game 6 and going "all-in" with a rested Big 3 in Game 7.
I don't know if this would be a great idea, or if the idiocy of spurstalk is finally starting to rub off on me. :lol

No, I think he would play them in Game 6. You have two games to close it out, you can't give away one.

Seeing as its impossible for Miami to lose back to back games, I don't see why this isn't a realistic option.

[QUOTE=N0 LyF3 ScRuB;6661424]You're such an idiot[/QUOTEWhen was the last time Miami lost consecutive games? If the Spurs win game 5 do you really think Miami is going to lose game 6 at home? Role players play better at home, meaning theirs will be better than ours. Our big 3 is really struggling right now, pretty much a big 2 at this point. So I don't see why putting all your eggs in one basket and going for it all in game 7 is such a shocking strategy.

Stern would levy a $5 million fine and strip us of our draft picks in this year's draft as punishment for resting players during a Finals game, tbh.

What am I thinking? You're killing me, smalls. I'll elaborate.
Given the finals schedule, the Spurs will finish this series playing 3 games in 5 days. That's very bad for Tim and Manu, who need at least an extra day so their bodies can recover. Three games in five days is probably the equivalent of a back-to-back in terms of the level of fatigue, and we all know how bad the Tim and Manu can look on the second game of a back-to-back.
So my point is, I wonder which is better (assuming Spurs win game 5, which they will!):
A) Have a warrior's mentality and go all out in game 6, which means:
Spurs have only one day off between games 5 and 6, so they won't be fully recovered and will only play at 85-90% energy level.
If the Spurs lose, they will have drained themselves and again will only have one day off to recover before game 7.
Since they were only 85-90% for game 6 and have only one day to recover, they won't be anywhere near that for game 7. They will only be playing at 70-75% energy-wise in a Game 7. (Bad idea)
Or B) Make a bold yet risky decision by sitting the Big 3 (and Leonard) for game 6, which means:
They have the luxury of three glorious days off to recover back to 100% energy and health.
They have one final shot, with no excuses, to win an NBA title.
I don't know about you, but in a game 7, I want the Spurs to be as close as possible to 100% in terms of energy and health. The only way this happens is if they sit out game 6.
If you want to argue that playing three games in five days (with a lot more fatigue) is better than playing only two games in five days (and being well rested), I'd love to read your reasons why.

Sitting your best players in a finals game? Yeah, no.
By the way, IIRC, Pop sat Tim against the Warriors because he wasn't playing well at that time, not because he wanted to keep him fresh or something.

The Spurs can taste it now. They are only 48 minutes away from #5. They will likely win Game 6 and the title on Tuesday night.
