View Full Version : NBA: Should Finals MVP be replaced with Playoffs MVP?..

Should they change the award, tbh?..

For example,

2013: Parker > Green
2008: Garnett > Pierce
2007: Duncan > Parker
2004: Ben Wallace > Billups

I'd be fine with that. Why restrict it to one series? Great players are remembered for their playoff runs, not just Finals performances.

Definitely. Finals MVP never made any sense to me. I get that it's the biggest stage, but that would be like rewarding the regular season MVP based on the final month of play.

By the way, there's virtually no chance Green actually wins it. They're not giving it to a role player, so forget Leonard, too. Because Duncan hasn't shot great nor had a signature game/moment, unless he carries them on his back in the clincher and Parker struggles mightily, he's not getting it, either. So most likely, Parker get's it.

I'd be fine with that. As fantastic as Green and Leonard have been in virtually all aspects, I'd have a difficult time giving it to a recipient, too . . . but I'd also be fine with either winning it as well, if that makes sense.

^ About to say the same, tbh.

Also, should a player that didn't win it all (or maybe not even make the finals) win it if his play calls for it?

Ginobili already had an argument for Finals MVP based on the current format, as did Gasol in 2010, which is why I didn't mention them, tbh..

Then Dirk would've received another MVP for his superb performances through the 06' playoffs imho

In my opinion, if there was a Playoffs MVP instead of just a Finals MVP, the winner of the award should be on the championship team.

Well Parker has an argument for Finals MVP right now, tbh.

I'd give it to Green or Leonard, but I agree with TD21, Tony will get it.

Maybe. Something like that makes sense if it's a one and done, like the NCAA tournament. I believe their "MVP" is the Most Outstanding Player. But since it's a best of 7 series, I think the Finals MVP is fine the way it is.

I agree

That's what they do in the NHL
