I think that's the only dunk he had all of last year and I know he's had many fast break opportunities. :rolleyes

iverson has, or used to have more hops. when he was first in the league he threw it down almost every game

Parker is 6'2"...Iverson is 5'11".

TP doesn't dunk because of his mentality. He can get up fine. He actually needs to learn to use his hops more. He settles for layups on numerous occasions where an American-raised player would want to dunk.

I have no idea what would make you say something like that...

I can think of at least 2 occasions off the top of my head where Parker should have dunked and instead missed a layup or had it blocked.

A dunk is the closest thing there is to a sure thing (*making* it go in). If you're not used to 6'2' guys being able to dunk easily...then I have no idea what to say about that. AAU was full of them...and this is the NBA.

How many 6'2 guys do you know of who dunk on a regular basis? First off, most teams have big guys defending the middle...these guys are definetely head and shoulders over Tony at least. Parker's layups are based on speed. It's easier for him to coast into the lane with a crossover or something and score on the big man with his teardrop or layup. It would be much harder for Tony to dunk on a big man on a regular basis. Dunks are not always "guaranteed shots." Like layups, they too can be blocked...I've see Duncan and even Rasho do it many times. It'd be just as easy for someone to block a 6'2 guy dunking the ball. Secondly, look at that picture. Do you see how high Tony has to jump to dunk in the first place? Why would be exert that much energy for dunks? Thirdly, Tony averaged something like 48.6% in FG% this season---where about 75% of his shots were in the paint for layups. That's a pretty darn good FG%.

Parker's layups are perfectly fine, he doesn't need to dunk. What he needs to do is work on his Jumpshot, not dunks. :rolleyes

Newsflash; exploiting his chances to dunk doesn't necessarily mean forcing dunks when it's not there and/or trying to dunk OVER people.

His stats are fine, sure...but more points (being a more deadly finisher) is always better. He, like any other player, can obviously improve on more than one dimension of his game. He hasn't reached his potential as a finisher yet either.

...not to mention that dunks hold a morale factor beyond the two points...and that dunks yield a higher percentage of "and ones".

Tony is an athletic specimen. If exploiting this to dunk more often...as he should have in the two examples that I'm thinking of (both in the playoffs)...yielded only four more points a year, it's still worth him actualizing every ounce of his athletic potential. I think his opportunities have been considerably more.

It's not like he needs to practice dunks. His mind needs to catch up with his exceptional athleticism. Like so much of the game, it's just a a matter of recognizing the opportunities that are presented to him (i.e. making better decisions, bball IQ). At this stage, improvement is largely mental; even with his jump-shooting, actually.
