View Full Version : Realistically speaking, how much should the Spurs offer Manu next season?

He's currently the highest paid on the roster at 14.1M dollars. Do you guys think he would sacrifice money for the team? And if so, how much?

Somewhere between veteran's minimum up to $5 million per season. I think Duncan plays 3 more years and Manu may go ahead and stay with him that long since he's a tad younger.

I'd say 2 years at a 13 million, with the 2nd one being a player option. TD MIGHT retire after the 2nd year of his contract, so maybe Manu MIGHT follow him out of the door too.

That's because of how the contract was made....... he made less money the previous years. I'd say 3mil year, two years is what he'll get.

I like 2 yr 8M with the second year being a team or player option.

It's interesting, Manus performances in games 5,6,7 may mean the difference of a few million dollars. In that sense it is relevant to bring up this topic right now. Same can be said of Tiago.

Pop is equally responsible.

10/2, 2nd player option.

3/9-10 with the third year a partial guarantee.

Any more and I don't see how they can afford to improve the rest of the roster.

I disagree with everyone. He needs to retire. He had a good performance in Game 7 and was the most efficient player at +8 I think. What a better way to retire than right after having the last good performance he had left.

Vet minimum. This guy is done. He wont stay healthy, he wont even play 25+ mpg, amount of his reckless plays will grow with responsibility on him. If he wants to repair what he fucked up this year, ok let him stay in the team, but dont use any significant salary on him.

Sign backup PG with good ballhandling skills (Jack, Calderon) , backup SF (Pierce, Henderson) , big men(Tiago, Big Al) and some streacky shooter (Korver).

spurs need another playermaker besides tp that can pass the ball but his turnovers kill

Equal? I don't think so. He is a top 3 most blameworthy guy, but Manu is #1 by far. Pop's only fucked up from the 4th quarter of game 6 on (micromanaged us into a loss in game 6, relied on a struggling Manu way more than an intelligent coach like him ever should have). Manu shat the bed throughout the series except for one game. So 5 1/2 shitty games for him, 1 1/3rd shitty games for Pop imo. I blame Manu at least 4x as much as I do Pop, and I blame Pop more than I do anyone else.

I don't blame: Duncan, Diaw, Green, or Leonard very much at all. They did everything you could've realistically expected of them and more.

Partial blame goes to Parker for not scoring enough (but he handled the ball nicely), Tiago for disappearing most of the time, and Neal for not doing quite enough.

It's interesting, Manus performances in games 5,6,7 may mean the difference of a few million dollars. In that sense it is relevant to bring up this topic right now. Same can be said of Tiago.

No not really. If Manu had been playing well up until that point, then happened to have two not so good games to close out (okay one horrendously shitty game), it would've been one thing. . .but the reality is that he was unreliable throughout the season, and really did not play well for the final 3 months of the season and the entirety of the postseason. He only had a handful of good games sprinkled over that 5 month span.

His SEASON is why he shouldn't be paid anywhere near what he's getting now. The end to it is just the icing on the cake. Imo not only should Manu be paid significantly less, but I think the Spurs should go out and look to sign another ball handling, scoring SG like Jarret Jack (or Ellis, which yes I know is unrealistic) to take over the majority of Ginobili's responsibilities. Manu can be our 3rd ballhandler. That way we can always have 2 on the court at a time instead of 1 most of the time and 2 just sometimes.

I'd also like to see Green and Leonard improve in that area too.
