I, like most Spurs fans, don't like Joey. But I'll give him this, he's not usually affected by the home crowd. Could work out OK.

(Though, if there is a a Game 7 that means Kennedy and Foster are up next).

we just gotta do what we did in G3 and G5...play with a lead the entire game. don't let the refs even have a chance to decide the game.

This is actually good news. Joey has been good for us on the road. I believe we've won every game he's reffed in these playoffs.

Spurs close it out tonight.

Birdman gets ejected. :lol

Edit: Just checked. Yes he did along with Ken Mauer. Mike Callahan reffed game 4.

We actually lost Game 2 on the road in Miami with Joey, but it wasn't his fault. It was mostly the Spurs fault, but the worst ref that game was Ed Malloy

Yeah, at least Joey is not intimidated by the home crowd. He's also not afraid to T up someone like LeBron or Wade.

Callahan's the one to worry about.

Agree, that A-hole has let the Spurs opponents get away with pulling, pushing hacking the crap out of them and will call the slightest contact a foul against a Spurs player.

Joey actually has called pretty good games this playoffs. Mauer, well he is just inconsistent either way. I am just glad Foster or Kennedy aren't reffing. Those two have been the worse for the Spurs this Playoffs. Having Foster, Kennedy and Callahan in game 4 was horrible to watch.

Callahan fell for the fineable Bosh flop in Game 4; the play didn't really mean anything at the end of the day, but seemed pretty egregious in the moment and showed itself to be a really bad call when reviewed. I don't think it's fair to judge an official based upon a single call, but missing a big one is worrisome.

At this point, the Spurs just need to play their game and not worry about whistles or no-calls or flops. Just play each play hard and with poise.

no 2-3-2 champion has lost at home.........of course not....then they wouldn't be champions. LOL. its game 7. what has happened to the 2-3-2 champions when they lose game 7.......they are the runner ups. which is what is going to happen. I think there is such a disparity in the outcpomes of the games because Lebron knows how to take advadtage when he knows the refs are helping him.....believe it.

We will see on the court. But I don't have a problem with Joey. He has been fair with the Spurs since the Duncan incident a few years back. I guess losing 25 to 30 grand in money got his attention.

I'm not that worried, Joey loves pissing off home crowds, especially the Miami crowd. And he and LeBron don't get along. I could see the pressure causing Miami to start off poorly, then SA jumping up to a big lead early, resulting in frustration and a technical for James.

Holy hell. Could there be a worse officiating crew?

Joey has been pretty reasonable thus far...but I still wouldn't put it past him to blow some gigantic, game-changing call late in the 4th quarter of a game 6.

Lest we forget the last time he choked on his whistle:

When your team loses in a blowout, it's hard to blame the refs.

It's when your team loses in a close game that the officiating becomes more of a valid question.

These playoffs, home team gets 24.9 FTA vs 22.6 for the away team. Same amount of fouls, 22.8 for each team. 97.1 points for the home team vs 93.5 for the away team.

Home team wins 58% of the time, his lowest % since 2004.

Former NBA Ref Questions Choice Of Joey Crawford

http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2013/06/18/former-nba-ref-questions-choice-of-joey-crawford/

DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) – In a controversial move, veteran NBA official Joey Crawford has been selected by the NBA to officiate Tuesday’s Game 6 of the NBA Finals.
The selection has drawn criticism by many due to Crawford’s history with Spurs forward Tim Duncan.

In 2007, Crawford ejected Duncan in a game against the Dallas Mavericks for laughing on the bench. Duncan claimed that Crawford held a “personal vendetta” against him and that Crawford even asked him if he wanted to fight before the ejection.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOygTd1NWCM

After a series of on-court incidents, Crawford was suspended indefinitely for what the NBA cited as “improper conduct and a lack of professionalism”.
Tim Donaghy, a former a former NBA referee who pled guilty to betting on games he officiated, joined New School on 105.3 The Fan to discuss the NBA’s decision.

“There’s other referees that they could put on this game besides him,” said Donaghy. “Why they do stuff like this is just another strange and unusual thing you can throw into the bucket of the NBA.”

Donaghy went on to call NBA Commissioner David Stern “arrogant” for making such a decision, noting that the NBA would love to see a Game 7.

Crawford also worked Game 2 of the finals, a 103-84 Heat win. Duncan had his worst game of the season, scoring 9 points on 3-13 shooting.
“Do I think this is a little bit of a ploy by the league office? Absolutely I do,” said Donaghy. “I think that they’re not going come down on [Crawford] too heavily if he misses a couple of calls that go against San Antonio.”

I'm not sure why you think it isn't possible for games to be effected by the refs unless it ended up close. When the Spurs got blown out, it wasn't a wire to wire blowout. They were without 5 in the 4th for one of them, and within 3 late in the 3rd for the other. They actually were close games. They just didn't end up that way.

Though I didn't even mention anything about them fixing either game in the post. Just that we lost every game those guys officiated.

Spurs had to play 5 v. 8 in Game 6 last year. They were never going to get a fair whistle from Stern. Pop made sure that everyone in the NBA sees that.

Mauer is the one that worries me. He sees what he wants to see.
This.

I remember reading Mauer was involved in some shit from 2010, and there are a couple of incidents, but this one is memorable....he officiated the game 6 of Boston/LA finals, the one where Lakers received a ton of help in an elimination game, per par. 19 FTAs to 10 for Boston. Mauer bothers me more than Crawford, who i can't stand but I think has mellowed a bit.

If it wasn't this particular Spurs team, I'd say, on to Game 7.
yep, after seeing this news, it confirmed the nervous feelings I've had after the elation over game 5. This particular Spurs team though has been executing at an amazing level, so it's possible we can overcome the shit that is coming.
