NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- New England Patriots (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/teams/new-england-patriots/index.html) tight end Aaron Hernandez (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/players/24088/index.html) was questioned by police investigating a possible homicide in this town 40 miles south of Boston. A source with knowledge of the investigation said Massachusetts State police spoke to Hernandez on Monday and were interested in possibly searching his home.
Hernandez is not believed to be a murder suspect, according to a source, but a vehicle rented in his name has emerged as a key piece of evidence in the investigation. The Sun Chronicle of Attleboro, Mass., reported on Tuesday that police identified a rented 2013 Chevrolet Suburban with Rhode Island license plates in connection with the possible homicide. According to the paper, the vehicle is registered to Enterprise and investigators were hoping to analyze it for fingerprints. A source said Hernandez's name is tied to that rental vehicle.
A jogger found the body of a 27-year-old Boston man on Monday in an North Attleboro clearing, less than a mile from Hernandez's home.
A North Attleboro police car idled in front of Hernandez's home on Tuesday, parked across the street from two television news vans. Yasmina Serdarevic, a spokesperson for the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, declined comment on Tuesday afternoon when contacted by SI.com.

Just heard on sports radio that 4 months ago Hernandez was sued for shooting someone in the eye. No charges filed, but the civil suit was dismissed after a fast settlement. This incident took place in a car.

Some interesting parallels.

New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez will be arrested in connection with a homicide near his suburban Boston home, according to a tweet Thursday morning fromBoston.com senior sports producer Steve Silva (https://twitter.com/stevesilva/status/347723096377135104%C3%A2%C2%80%C2%A8%C3%A2%C2%80%C 2%A8).

Authorities on Thursday morning returned to the industrial park where the body of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd had been found on Monday, Boston’s WFXT-TV reported on its website. The station, citing a law enforcement official, also reported that Hernandez "appears to be directly tied (http://www.myfoxboston.com/story/22638740/2013/06/19/investigation-involving-pats-te-hernandez-ruled-a-homicide)" to the slaying, and that Hernandez, Lloyd and two other men had left a Boston bar together in a car driven by Hernandez on the night Lloyd was killed.

Welp, not much they can do about it for the upcoming season unless Aaron Dobson turns out to as good as a certain other Marshall alumni who pays fines with straight cash, but it's pretty obvious the Gronknandez offense isn't gonna cut the mustard in terms of Brady winning a 4th superbowl if you know whottt I mean. Both players are injury prone and have way too much going on off the field. Wait it out this season and see if things turn around, but in the likely scenario they don't it's time to move on.

Police plan to go back to the home of New England Patriot's tight endAaron Hernandez (http://abcnews.go.com/US/aaron-hernandez-tangled-murder-probe-sued-shooting-friend/story?id=19435727) today with another warrant based on evidence that "he destroyed his home security system,'' an investigator close to the case told ABC News.
The investigator, and other law enforcement sources, confirmed that the security system - which included video surveillance - was smashed intentionally.
And a cell phone used by Hernandez was handed over to investigators "in pieces'' by his attorneys, the sources said.
Police also want to know why a team of house cleaners were hired on Monday to scrub Hernandez's mansion, sources told ABC News.

Maybe it's just me, but when people are dishonest with cops/destroy evidence, it opens them up for judgements. Breaking your cell phone and home security system while having a cleaning crew sweep through your house all in the middle of a police investigation is more or less begging for your behavior to get judged.

That mostly stems from the Andrea Yates scandal years ago when she killed her 5 kids, lied to the cops about countless things, claimed Jesus told her to do it after she ran out of lies, and then got loads of media support by somehow successfully turning herself into a victim. Once you start lying to cops and obstructing justice, you're guilty in my eyes.

Stories continue to accumulate about the signs in Aaron Hernandez’s background, stories that paint a more complete if complicated picture about his character.

And according to the Boston Globe, he flashed a temper and made threats to one of the Patriots’ respected veterans within days of arriving for work.

In an anecdote near the bottom of a longer report, it was mentioned that Hernandez was at the team facility trying to watch film, when he grew frustrated at not being able to operate the equipment. Wide receiver Wes Welker walked by, Hernandez asked for help, and Welker replied: “Rookie, you figure it out.”

According to the report, Hernandez “responded with expletives.”

The Globe being a family publication, didn’t expound, but one of their reporters did on Twitter.

According to Shalise Manza Young, Hernandez’s reply was “f— you Wes, I’ll f— you up!“

While rookies getting their backs up with veterans is not an uncommon act, the threat within a few days of being drafted was unusual, and as was noted, it was not said in a joking manner.

It was also reported in the newspaper that Hernandez spent “little, if any time with his Patriots teammates off the field,” preferring to surround himself from friends from his old neighborhood.

Taken on its own, the story might not be that big of a deal, especially within the legal context of “innocent until proven guilty.”

But coupled with everything else we’ve learned about Hernandez this week, it adds to the pile of anecdotal evidence which is becoming harder to ignore.

We’ve noticed over the past few days an interesting theory regarding the death of Odin Lloyd. Some have speculated about a Jayson Williams-type situation, with Lloyd accidentally shot at the home of Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. Then, instead of owning up to the incident, those involved opted to try to cover it all up.

But there’s a significant difference. As the Boston Globe reported on Thursday night, Lloyd was shot not just once — and the shooting didn’t occur in Hernandez’s home.

“He was killed where they found the body,” an unnamed law enforcement official told the Globe. “He was shot multiple times.”

Also, FOX 25 reported that Hernandez’s neighbors heard “gunshots” between 3:00 and 3:30 a.m. on Monday. Not one shot, but multiple shots. (As a practical matter, the sound of a single gunshot may wake someone up, but it won’t necessarily register with the witness as the sound of a gun. Multiple shots give the witness a better chance to realize what is being heard.)

The competing reports from the Globe and FOX 25 raise a good question regarding the ability of Hernandez’s neighbors to hear the gunshots, if they were fired not at Hernandez’s house but at the industrial park where Lloyd’s body was found. An overhead image of the area shows that, as the crow flies (or any other type of bird or winged mammal), what would appear to be the rear of the industrial park isn’t far from Hernandez’s house, which is on the other side of a fairly thin slice of woods.

So the sound would have a chance to travel from the industrial park to the neighborhood, especially if (as it appears) this is an area that doesn’t generate much noise at 3:00 a.m. on a Monday.

I didn't know that before this happened, but it's also not my job to know that, tbh.... hell, even Urban Meyer said Hernandez would either end up in the HOF or in jail.... if the Patriots' scouts weren't paying attention to this stuff, they failed, period....

The Patriots' used a 4th round pick on someone who gave them elite level TE production for a few years and got them a hair within winning a superbowl. I'd say regardless of what happens it was a 4th round pick well worth the risk.

Giving him his new contract was maybe stupid (though I've heard they might be able to get out of it), but using a 4th round pick on someone who gave pro bowl level production for three years, two of which were deep playoff runs, wasn't a bad decision. It's not like they used a top pick on him.

FTR I'm also not defending him as I think he's guilty as sin here, but given how most 4th round picks have short careers where they barely make it onto the field, I don't fault the Patriots at all. I'd use a 4th round pick on Hernandez all over again, and giving him an extension isn't something you can fault them for when he hadn't been a problem off the field in the NFL.

:lol Which is why he wasn't drafted till the 4th round. Every team uses later picks on questionable guys, and often times their questionable character resurfaces.
