View Full Version : The Spurs Needed a Backup Point Guard

Against the high-pressure Miami defense, the Spurs really needed a backup point guard to come in and take the load off of Turnobili's shoulders. Turnobili is turnover-prone and when the Spurs have him run the point against a defense like Miami, it's only asking for trouble.

Unfortunately, the Spurs' planned backup PG was T.J. Ford, who had a career-ending injury.

Then Pop proceeded to fuck up his backup PG position throughout the season by never letting Nando get into a rhythm and giving him a proper chance at winning the job.

As Nando showed in the early season game against the Heat, he has what it takes to give Parker some rest on the bench and keep Turnobili from activating. He can run the offense and Manu can play SG as he always should have. He's no PG.

Nando is the Spurs' X-factor in game 7. If only Pop can see the light, the Spurs will be raising another banner in November. Nando is a key piece to this team that Pop fucked over all season long by stealing his playing time and giving it to others because he hates French players. That also explains his reluctance to play Diaw early in this series.

I will bust out a bottle of champagne if they cut/trade Nadno DeJoto and do NOT resign Splitter.

under no circumstance should Nadno (not a mispelling) ever play significant minutes for the Spurs. Unless, of course, they are tanking to get a better draft pick.

if they cut NadNo, then they would have an open roster spot for a competent back up PG

Pop failed us by not starting Nando in game 7. Nando = X-Factor.

Nando being the backup point guard in April was one of the reasons the Spurs were struggling. Until he, and the same for Cory Joseph learn how to shoot or get to the basket consistently then they will struggle with us no matter how good defender Joseph is or good playmaker that Nando can be. Hopefully the Spurs can somehow land Robinson still and Houston supposedly like Nando when he came out in the draft a few years ago, so maybe they can use him as a piece especially if Cory improves this summer.

Why tell us? You should be telling Pop that. I do think Pop played a little too conservative at times. That caused him to over rely on Manu.

If Neal signs elsewhere and the Spurs don't find a relaible backup. It's all on how Denmon performs those 10 days in Vegas!
