View Full Version : Don't Blame Pop
Blame the system.
1) Who knew Manu would continue to play so badly. Remember the warriors game. He sucked all the way but he made the final 3.
2) Sitting Tim out was something that they had done all season long. Tim, manu and tony all said in the interview. The game plan was to switch everything so as not to give up screen - 3 pointers. And they all said all season long that Tim is not in the line-up when they do that, most probably because he cant get too high to contest the 3 point shot. This is different from Vogel-pacers, as they were only up 1/2 and needed to protect the rim. Who knew that the heat was going to shoot the ball b4 the shot clock runs out and catch a rebound. Usually the last ball they run finish the possession to prevent the opponent from having the opportunity to get back after they make the shot - in this case theres no need for rebounds.
3) Tony sat out because of defense, and Pop wanted to shock the heat in transition as the heat would have expected a time out for parker to come back, and will not game plan for this sudden transition.
4) It was down 3 with 19secs to go. With the way that spurs has been shooting the free throws, I doubt Pop would have wanted a free throw war. Imagine you foul them, they make 2 free throws, we are up 1. They foul us, we make 1. Then they score a 3/2pointer. What would you say? Pop overcoached, should not have fouled, let them shoot the 3point, blahblah. Its the same. And they took 0.5secs to foul us on that leonard free throw, so there would probably be a good 10secs for lebron to charge in for a layup.
5) And they didnt really leave Ray Allen open on that last 3 pointer. Allen was at the baseline behind bosh at the time of the rebound, and when the spurs saw bosh get the rebound, all their heads turned to Bosh and its at that time that allen ran to the 3point line to make that shot. It was a hustle play.

Pop made so many dumb decisions this game. Of course a lot of the blame is on him. And rightfully so.

It`s simple. You fucking put your best free throw shooter on the line, and he makes it both. Time runned, timeouts burned. All in your hands, you dont take gamble on someone lucky/miraclous 3pointer. You just dont.

Not Pops fault we cannot hit closeout FT's.
Pop wasn't perfect, but we would have put this game away if we'd quit splitting Ft's. Players choked...

You dun get a choice. With the miami's defense and at that level of pressure, even throwing the inbound pass to an open man is so difficult did you watch the last few possessions. Timmy had no choice and almost missed the 5seconds clock and had to pass it to kawhi.
Even our best free throw shooter was brickin free throws at the clutch times too. Tony, Manu and kawhi was all 1/2 each at the end

I don't care what anybody says. This isn't Golden State or a pussy LA team. You don't take your best rebounder, and best defender off the floor when you need a defensive stop against the defending champs with seconds to go.
You. Just. Don't.

Pop shortened the rotation too much. It almost worked this game. I don't think it will work for game 7. He's got to find a way to get contributions from others. He basically rode these guys into the ground and the have a game on Thursday.

He rests them and you guys complain this is the finals. He plays them and you worry about game 7.

As I have already said, it was the game plan. The system that they had been running all season long. The players said so themselves. Who knew Diaw and leonard could not grab the board from bosh. Who knew the ball would fly to the heat 2 times.

If we had gotten the rebound, the Duncan substitute would have been seen as one of the most gutsy, and brilliant moves of the game.
Blame our guys. Pop is arguably the reason why we have such a great system.

Needed rebounds on the last 2 defensive plays to complete the stop, both times spurs gave up the offensive to have dagger threes hit against them but its not on POP.
Using the the the all season logic doesn't makes sense. He's gones away from a few things that they've done all season.

The game plan was switching so Duncan would probably be at the 3 point line after a switch and not be able to get the rebound anyway.

Also, Timmy didn't look happy about getting benched. He should of pulled a Tony Parker move and demanded he stay on the court.

Its not Pop's fault the rebound was a high arcing rebound that bounced to the elbow.

He's poker face is always on throughout the games. Would you rather a team that believes in its coach, and have a system and a long standing coach to develop players, or a team that blames, does not trust the coach and changes coaches all the time.

You never never bench your 1st team NBA, Hall of Fame, best rebounder/defender who is having his best game of the year in a close out game. Especially when rebounding missed shots are huge in that situation. Spurs have never ever benched Duncan in that situation before.
Pop choked!!!!

You don't read, do you? And theres no point being the best rebounder/defender when the "defender" refers to rim protection, and they are not going to go to the rim. Also, since they are going to switch everything, Tim would most probably be at the 3 point line after a switching for a mismatch, and our best rebounder in this case would be Leonard. Diaw is a better player in this situation as he can also guard the 3 point.

im not sure why we talking about changing coaches. you going off on a different tangent here.
I saw three spurs sky for a rebound together and then fumble it as a result of colliding . Your best rebounder with easily better reach would of got it cleanly. it's not the complicated.
That wasn't a Timmy poker face . I've seen him long enough to know. That was a unhappy competitor who wanted to make a difference on the court.

Your best rebounder would not even be there - read - they will switch a mismatch for duncan to be at the 3 point line. And how would a "best rebounder" got it cleanly without colliding? Just because hes there, the rest will disappear?
and for players to rebel against coaches, that usually end with changing coaches. That was what I meant anyway. I rather have a team whereby right or wrong, the players stand by the coaches' decisions through wins and losses.
And like you can read timmy's face.

you making stuff up. There was no switch . He would of been on Miller or Wade . Makes the inound pass more difficult for Miller or gone down low on Wade who never wans't going to shoot the three , then goes for the rebound. again, not that complicated.. i've got the replay right in from of me.
Knowing faces? Like you play poker with Tim .

So we manage Duncan's minutes all season only to pull him from the two most important possession of the season. This is a fail on Pop and on Duncan for not resisting. Duncan would have gotten that board that later resulted in a James 3.

There was no switch because Tim was not in. Pop tried his best to put in 5 defenders that would have no mismatch with anyone, thats why Miami could not find any and thus no switch. If Tim was going to make the inbound pass more difficult for Miller, it just means his not going to be able to go for the rebound.
I dun play poker with Tim. I dun try to guess what he was feeling. He said in the post game interview that he had no problems with Pop's decision, that it was the game plan, and that it was what they had use all season long.
and Dverde, you cant read the future, how would you have known that Duncan would have gotten that board.

There's was no switch on the guy Diaw was guarding . Wade was the logical choice to switch onto or help off because he never indetended on shooting a three. Both Diaw and KY got hands to the ball when going for the rebound. KY in fact just stood there in the keyway allowing Danny to go onto bron. KY was near wade in the keyway which is exactly what Tim would of done. Your teams best rebounder had more chance of getting it while KY could of been out there defending Bron. Replay over replay don't lie but you do.

I agree Slippy there is no doubt Tim should have been in and Parker out. One of the best defenders/rebounders of all time what a mistake. If you people can't see it then you are blind. It cost us the championship bottom line!!!
Whats the point of switching, when Lebron can shoot over u any day of the week, he can always, always get a good look. That call made no sense with 25 seconds to go with Miller as the only "big" for Heat on floor, but it was disastrous when Spo subbed Miller with Bosh on the last play.
0:28 94-89 Mike Miller enters the game for Chris Bosh
0:22 94-89 Mike Miller offensive rebound
0:19 94-92 Chris Bosh enters the game for Mike Miller
0:06 95-92 Chris Bosh offensive rebound
This never happens with Tim on the floor.

I know that a switch would have been there because they already said they were going to switch anything. Why am I repeating myself again and again. IF Tim was in, he would be the only mismatch the heat can find. IF he was out, there would be NO mismatch, so the heat wun be able to find one, and thus there was no screens. Why would lebron wan diaw switching to him when he has been pathetic against Diaw.

Exactly. Everyone remembers when the Olajuwon blocked Starks in game 6 in '94 Finals. If Rudy had decided to go small Starks probably hits that jumper. Big men can still have an impact on the defense when the other team is trying to shoot a 3. If anything they're harder to shoot over. The shooter is forced to shoot at a higher arc to avoid the block. Spoelstra has suckered Pop into playing small ball to his detriment. It's beyond dumb. Why wouldn't you play your best defensive player on the most important defensive stop of the season? It's overcoaching at it's best.
