He made a name for himself in the finals. The whole playoff run really. He left it all out there on both ends.

His future is bright. Spurs fans should be proud of him.

He is the third man of the new big 3, hopefully Manu is gone. TP, KL and TD are a solid core, DG stepped up and Diaw is a revelation. They need to send Tiago to Rucker park or something to get some meaness to his game or he can take the same bus out of town Manu does.

Be careful what you wish for. I'm fine taking him back assuming he takes a more limited role. Can contribute for 15-18 minutes a night.

And I think this also puts to rest any talk about Kawhi NOT being an All Star. He'll be there in two years, guaranteed.

Leonard was the real reason the Spurs were even in this series. His defense on Lebron, his rebounding, his steals, and pouring in baskets whenever he could. Dude just played out of his mind for his team. If Leonard just played like a normal second year player, Lebron would have been uncaged earlier and the Spurs would have been swept.

Kawhi Leonard was our fucking MVP this entire series.

That said, it's just SAD that a 21 year old is expected to CARRY A VETERAN TEAM ON HIS BACK in GAME 7 of the NBA FINALS. It's just shameful that he's the ONLY ONE who can get a fucking rebound. The ONLY ONE who you TRUST with the ball in his hands on offense late in the shot clock. What the HELL happened to this TEAM?

When the Spurs abandon their offense and ball movement like this it's just sad to watch. If Tony Parker doesn't penetrate then their are very few Spurs who have the confidence and poise to handle the ball. And Leonard is probably our best option.

I know he missed a potential Finals clinching free-throw, but Leonard was AMAZING these last two games. Shame on the rest of the team for abandoning the offense these last two games in this series. Leonard almost won it for us despite it.

Johnny RIngo
06-20-2013, 11:39 PM
IMO, the top five all-time Spurs will look like this in the future(15 years):

1. Duncan
2. Robinson
3. Gervin
4. Leonard

5. Ginobili
6. Parker

Parker's been a historically mediocre playoff performer so 6th place is being fair to him. Ginobili used to have star-level impact in the 2000s so he's above Parker. Both have had their share of playoff chokes and don't deserve to be placed any higher though.

Leonard's missed FT's and 3 pters get a pass with me - Like Manu ONCE did. He earns the chance to make mistakes by playing balls out and giving everything he has. Manu's game has regressed. I'm ok with him coming back with a reasonable contract and a different role. He's lost his dribbling and play-making ability. If he retires, I'll respect that too. We've learned to win without him.

I've been watching Kawhi since high school and will say this. Since he was at SDSU, I've always thought that we haven't seen anyone like Kawhi in the NBA. I really think that this is the reason why he slipped so much in the NBA draft. The scouts couldn't figure him out. Most people thought that he would be a bust with his inability to shoot from the outside.....but RC Buford and his staff really nailed it by trading for Kawhi.

So where does Kawhi go from here? He's going to be a better version of Ben Wallace.

Think about the future of Kawhi Spurs fans. He weighs about 220 lbs right now. In 2-3 years, he'll probably weigh 240+ lbs.....and it would all be muscle. For someone who is 6'7" with his length, he'll be able to play and defend all five positions on the court. I don't think he'll ever develop an outstanding outside shot. But, he will have his corner shot just like Bruce Bowen and I think he'll develop a go-to shot somewhere else on the court (i.e. a bank shot like Scottie Pippen).

I think the most important thing he got out of the post season is that he learned that he can more than hold his own against the best in the world on both ends of the court. This is going to do wonders for his confidence and as a total player, Kawhi will develop into a big three type of player for the Spurs and will eventually average about 17 pts and 9-10 rbs a game.

Great season for Kawhi and the Spurs. Keep your heads up Spurs fan. You guys had a fantastic season.

Kawhi is 21 and he's already a monster, he can play defense, he can shoot the ball and he is physical. His shot will improve, his 3 ball will get better and he'll get stronger and then watch out. So much upside, so much potential, so much to teach him... I can't imagine where he will be at 26 or 27 when he hits his prime.

He had a 19/16 in Game 7 of the NBA Finals and did an admirable job against 'The Best Basketball Player in the World". If he has the green light to do what he wants offensively I think he can average a 18/10 plus a shot of the Defensive Player of the Year. Kid is that damn good

As much as I ate this year's playoff Manu, I think having him as your 5th or 6th best player means you're at a very good place. I think Kawhi is now in the REAL big 3, although Manu's still in the big 3, but more as a symbol now more than ever.

I agree with this. I'm impressed at Kawhi's one-on-one skills. We could all blame Pop for trusting the Big Three so much, but in reality, if Neal/Green didn't explode or Kawhi shrunk under the spotlight, we would've been swept. Duncan is the only consistent member of the Big Three.
