From Ole: Oberto has admitted that's his time to retire has finally arrived. "I'm thinking about other things," said Oberto after saying no to Atenas. He would become a part of Gregg Popovich's staff in the Spurs.

He didn't give many details, but it's practically a fact that he'll be the new assistant in Popovich's staff...replacing Mike Budenholzer who recently became the new Atlanta coach. "I've been in touch with Buford...he told me the doors were open for me here. I was in San Antonio last month and we spoke. It's my home," he said. Tags

I translated the most important parts. The full article is here: http://www.ole.com.ar/basquet/vas-Pop_0_942505860.html

If this pans out i don´t be surprised if we use our late second to draft Argentina´s Backup PG Facundo Campazzo (the guy that hit carmelo in the semifinals with the so called "cheap shot")

That's what I thought too...It'd be nice to see him helping Baynes.

He says in the article that's "an opportunity to start from the bottom", so I suspect he would just join the staff, kinda like Sean Marks did this season.

I guess he would start as a bigmen coach and, given how smart and experienced he was as a player, I guess he would be fine in that role.

I would not want that at all he missed a couple o seasons here and there with a heart defect.

I'd love to see tiago have his will and drive though.

Pretty much what I thought.
I was always amazed during his run with us how he was able to maximize his talent by understanding the game.

Rightly so, if you want to work in the NBA off the court, the best place to start is in the Spurs organization. I believe having time spent with the spurs office will greatly increase any chance of getting a job anywhere in the NBA.

Considering that he has a high basketball IQ, Oberto would be a valuable asset to the Spurs staff.

there's no news on this... he officially retired from basketball about 3 weeks ago, and there were no other news since then.

I remember him having a very high Basketball IQ so I think he will make a very fine addition to the staff.

Tony Parker with Fabricio Oberto :tu

http://64.19.142.13/www.foxsportssouthwest.com/common/medialib/269/803085.jpg

Tony Parker is apparently a huge nerd about The Avengers.

With Comic-Con just wrapping up in San Diego, pictures are now surfacing from Parker's Facebook account of a couple collectibles that every geek would give up his Magic The Gathering card collection to add to his collection.

Before the series against the Warriors started, Parker posted photos of himself and former Spur Fabricio Oberto on his Facebook page standing in front of Iron Man and The Hulk captioned, "Look who was at my house yesterday!!!! One of my fav teammate [of] all time!!!! Fabiooooooooo" :lol

So, is he coming or not? any news?

My guess, and it's just that, is that the hold up is Philly dilly dallying over hiring their new head coach, with Bret Brown STILL a candidate. If Bret goes to Philly, they'll likely hire Fab for the Spurs staff.

Looks like Vanterpool is the front-runner, but Brett Brown is a strong candidate there.

Every candidate has been a front runner at one time or another. He's the flavor of the week.
