#: expiring contracts; %: player/team options
With all expirings off the book (and marion & Mayo possibly out too), we'll only have Dirk, James, Crowder, Cunningham, James and Carter left on our roster, but also a cap space of about 30m to work with.
I think we should split the 30m space on two players, going all out for one top-tier superstar (like CP) and another borderline superstar (like Iggy) since we can't afford two maxes even with 30m space, and we can't expect niggas to join us on paycuts knowing how greedy and venal niggas are. Then we will have a core of Dirk + CP3 (or someone else of that caliber) to build around, and a decent #3 option taking the rest 12-13m something CP3 leaves on the table.
I don't fancy the proposal of signing DH at all. Dude with a broke back ain't no longer the monster he once was, he would still be a nice companion to dirk but I'd rather go after the cheaper ones like Dalembert or something else. If we miss out on CP, I'd rather we go all out chasing Iggy and Josh Smith who will then be the best free agents left in the market. 15m/yr salary for the first year wouldn't sound too bad for either guy I think, and we will be stacked as FUCK at the wing. Promote Wright to the starting C and sign a title-chasing veteran PG (like Billups), we'll be back in the playoffs and hopefully making the 2nd round or even WCF next season, if not in the title contention (in fact, Miami will be the only team in title contention for another 4-5 season to come imho)
