According to Sean Deveney of Sporting News (http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/story/2013-06-25/nba-draft-2013-trade-rumors-free-agency-2013-celtics-josh-smith-luol-deng-jimmer), the Boston Celtics have a sign-and-trade offer prepared for the Atlanta Hawks’ Josh Smith.
The Celtics’ pursuit of Smith is contingent on Boston’s ability to trade Paul Pierce this week to a team under the salary cap. If Boston can find a team with cap space willing to take on Pierce’s $15.3 million for next season, the Celtics will receive a trade exception worth Pierce’s salary.

Why would anyone want Josh Smith on the max contract he wants, let alone a rebuilding team? :lol

Danny Ainge was saved by the big 3 deal and run ...otherwise he would be unemployed. I think pierce is a punkass but he should get treated like Bird with what he meant to that franchise. Sure he is no Larry Legend but he is just below Kobe Duncan KG. Alongside Dirk as part of the top of that generation. Kidd has a strong case as well and of course Shaq would be right behind Timmy but the prick can ball.

Sadly there is a severe shortage of quality players in the NBA. Smith ain't one of 'em.

True :lol

Does he plan on negotiating this through the media too and telling Woj to smear the Hawks for him? :lol

I don't know why ST's believe this rumor. It's very likely not true.

the source isnt reliable but this has been out there as a possibility before and its realistic. they have always wanted him and rondo too. that team would get zoned the hell out of them

No no no... please go through for the hilarity. Ainge definitely deserves to coach Josh Smith.

losing Pierce for Josh ain't gonna make them a better team imho. Josh has no leader instinct in him, just a solid #2 or #3 option on a good team in offense and a solid blue-collar at the defensive end. If they're set to tank they won't need Josh Smith, and if they still want to contend they will be missing the leadership of Pierce badly

i dont know why the celtics just keep the core for one more season? doesnt hurt them right?

They just need to keep rondo at all costs and start rebuilding. They could easily be contending again in the east in the next 3 years
