TOSB Manu becoming a crutch for Pop was sad to see. Playoff Parker showing up and fucking things up was depressing(TP had his first great playoff run in 2013...until the Finals). Watching TD turn back the clock only for Pop to fuck it all up with his overcoaching was infuriating.

I actually thought the Heat's defense should be credited for some of those turnovers from Manu. I just can't see him giving the game away to the Heat especially playing for an NBA title, no way. It's either the Heat's defense or Ginobili needs to have his eyes examined, maybe he needs glasses. I really think it was the Heat's defense more than Manu trying to help Miami win. LOL at that pic of him in a Heat jersey.
I also thought Pop overreacted at the end of game 6 there, taking Timmy out, it was a coaching mistake at the wrong, wrong time. It ruined the flow of the game the Spurs had built and led to the eventual Ray Allen 3 off the Bosh rebound tied the game it went to OT. Pop is one of the NBA greatest coaches ever but even the best coaches can make mistakes, it just sucks it came at such a time as winning a possible NBA title up by 5 points in the closing moments of game 6. Yeah taking Timmy out at that time will haunt him as a coach, no doubt. Leaving Timmy in could have made it harder for Bosh to get that rebound that went to Ray, outcome different maybe. I was thinking wtf are you taking Timmy out of the game for with so much at stake, it was a bad coaching decision by Pop. I am sure he would leave Tim in the game if they could do it all over again. Still even if Tim had stayed in the game it's anybody's guess how that would have played out, except that Bosh would have had a harder time getting a rebound.
I can live with the Heat still making the 3 as long as I know we played our best defensive lineup.

You are right, he plays not to lose alot instead of to win. The Spurs down the stretch of so many games I have seen just slow it down or fail to score or have some crap play drawn up and just hope to hold on! They were not playing to win as you said, moreso playing to just hold on and hope they pull it out. The lineups etc. he had out there to prevent a three did not prevent crap, instead it made sure the three was not even fully covered and rebounds were not there as well because he went small all the way. I would have had Splitter and Tim out there personally, hell you hit a three (Which they did) okay, but to miss and have no rebounds out there twice is a joke (They got both boards).
Some of those TO's he had were just running and stumbling and handing the ball to the other team, very very unbelievable IMO if you look at some of those unforced TO's that it is even possible to lose the ball. He looked drunk out there at times just throwing the ball right ot the other team or handing it to a player it seemed. If you did not know the competitor he is and follow the NBA you would have think he was throwing the game, honestly.
Their D was good though, very good D team no doubt.
I agree with you about playing Splitter and TD. We saw how they closed out the Grizzlies series defensively in end of game situations. Splitter's one of the best big man in his ability to switch on the guard and still force the miss.

There definitely was some questionable turnovers by Manu in the Finals, purposely throwing the game is a stretch, I highly doubt that but yeah it's a little bit of both. He did give the ball away to Miami plenty of times, not sure why but maybe he was tired or drunk.
Bullshit, the Spurs choked and the Heat got lucky. The Spurs were the better team and should have won the series.
IMO the Spurs were good enough to win that championship, and played hard enough and better than Miami and the difference being the Heat got lucky plenty of times in that series, one to many because they lost the series.

It still hurts, it still pisses me off. I have all the NBA Finals games recorded on my DVR. I've been able to watch game 7 again but I have been unable to watch game 6.
I am so anxious for this upcoming season to start, I truly believe this team can do it again and get back to the Finals. BUT WE NEED THE #1 SEED, homecourt throughout. If we are playing at the ATT Center in games 6 and 7 last year, we are champions no question.

Honestly, I'm not hurt about the Finals like a lot of you because the Heat are good at toying with teams that think they have them beat (see the regular season game we played them in Miami, ECF Game 1 against Indiana, Game 6 Finals). Of course, our loss was the worst since it was on the biggest stage, but I never felt safe about the game because the Heat are clutch as fuck down the stretch. And even with the Spurs peaking in the playoffs and the Heat sucking for most of the ECF, I still the Heat as the favorites. I give the Spurs credit for making it a great series. Too bad they couldn't seal the deal.
Of course, if Duncan never sees a title again after this year, it will hurt, but right now, I'm over it. Hopefully the guys have one more run in them and hopefully injuries don't fail them again and we can right back there next season.

Yep, didn't say he gave it away on purpose but if you are an an outsider watching and don't know who he is then you might say is he trying to throw the game? That would cross my mind :( He looked like you said tired or drunk.
BTW on the second part, luck plays a part on most title runs, even some of ours we had some luck. I agree on all you said.

The Spurs late game execution has been shaky for a couple of years now. You used to be able to always give the Spurs the benefit of the doubt in close games.

It has to be... there's been plenty of situations like that where there have been improbable last second comebacks, but never one where the other team literally took the title out of the hands of their opponent.

This.
It was a problem during many games during the regular season such as the road game in Utah, both regular season games against the Heat, the game in Golden State, the home loss to Phoenix, the home loss to the Knicks, the last second loss at Houston plus a few others. They were in control of all of those games and let them slip away.
Had their late game execution been what it was in years past, they're battling Miami for the best record in the league.

The reason it doesn't happen is that teams in that position win greater than 99%. In the playoffs it's 100% I believe. That 99% figure includes all those inexperienced teams that play during the regular season. It's unheard of for a veteran team to not know how to close a game. Coaches have so much control over end of game situations with the ability to sub on almost each possession. You can put your best free throw shooters in the game when the other team is forced to foul.

Just like the Lakers, fuck the Heat. How any Spurs fan can stand idle to the mention of the Heat without thinking up thoughts of cheating and collusion is a travesty. Fuck Lebron. He will always be a pussy who couldn't win without joining other superstars.

If game 6 and 7 was at home, I think we would have blown them out. Sucks that we didn't have home court. Some of those East teams in the regular season didn't pose any challenge to Miami whatsoever. Still, lots of other teams other teams that played in Miami got blown out. The Spurs went toe to toe with them on their homecourt and even outplayed them for the majority of game 6 till they fucked it all up at the end. It still shits me that we allowed them back in, in game 6 and didn't snuff them out. I was so angry at Pop when he started that regular season lineup at the start of the 4th quarter in game 6 of the NBA finals. I have no idea what the fuck he was thinking at times in both game 6 and 7. There is a lot of things that I wouldn't have done if I was in his position coaching the 4th quarter of game 6, still can't believe some of his decisions.

When I was thinking about how close it came to happening was in Game 6 Heat at Mavs in 2006. Heat up 3, Wade gets fouled and can put the game away. Misses both free throws, Mavs come down with a chance to tie and Terry barely misses the 3. If that game goes to OT Mavs probably win and then win Game 7. Luckily for them they got the rebound. :(

I agree it's better to not leave your feet. But what's worse than that is telegraphing your passes. That's what Ginobili was doing. He was leaving his feet and telegraphing his passes.

Like it will go away next POs... That shit will stick with us forever like TP said on his deathbed he will still think about it.
Game 6 will be the most watched Spurs game in history, even if game 7 technically did better game 6 is the game people will rewatch for years and years to come.

I accepted Pop a long time ago, and I'm over the loss (though I still haven't rewatched it). I admit that the regular season doesn't appeal to me though, I feel like no win matters until we get back to the postseason. It's hard to be excited about the Spurs right now, tbh...maybe the closer we get to opening night.

i actually watched every Spurs playoff game and repeat this season, normally I just try to catch almost all of their playoff games. But this time, I couldn't even bare to rewatch the last couple games of the Finals. however, I'm actually interested in re-watching it, i guess I'm prepared for the massacre. You got it DVRd or do you know a good link to download them?

I actually found that article incredibly therapeutic. People will say "get over it" but I'm not sure one ever does, i guess they simply accept it. So in that sense, at least to me the most important thing is to learn from it. That article went a long way towards that.
Watching Duncan leave the game at the infamous 28 seconds, I just got a bad feeling in me, and I don't think it's hindsight 20/20 because while watching it just now, I was actually lost in the moment. But you can just tell without Duncan, a massive force or impact player is not there. He does things that you can't quantify but you feel it and so does the opponents. I remember watching that game live, I just had this sinking feeling in Pop, like he was the drunk captain of the Exxon Valdez. He just wasn't dialed in properly.
That article was great but this was the money quote.
If the first time Pop sat Duncan was a poorly-conceived idea, the second time was simply outright asinine. There's just no other word for it. It was Pop not getting over himself. He messed up the first time, didn't want to admit it, and did the exact same thing again.

Pop screwed up, I have been telling fans of bball at work who still think he is great that he started to lose it years ago! The sad thing is he is so damn good at managing minutes all year long and getting us far with our guys in good shape, then goes out and can't adjust in a big series when the other coach does or POP just does what he did in game 6 and blows it! So the gift and the curse there. Would any other Coach get you there is the question? With this team?
I also hate the fact when someone is turning it over alot he lets them stay in there now, before you made one bad PASS and POP was all over you and saying sit your ass down and screaming at you, now Ginobili has 8 of them etc. and he just keeps them in and shutters on the bench? This is not the POP we knew. He was great, but is he still?

I know it goes against his pulling of Duncan end of game 6, but its still the "have your best players out there" philosophy. Manu was playing like shit in game 6, but Pop developed a sense of trust in him over the years. Didn't seem to pan out in game 6. Manu did hit 3/4 free throws in the final minute, but that one miss was brutal.

This is not the POP we knew. He was great, but is he still?I agree. Pop has gone senile for quite some time now. LOL, I remember Pop once calling Manu "crazy." God I miss that old Pop. If Pop thought that Manu was crazy back then, then I can't believe he failed to see that Manu was mentally disturbed during the NBA Finals.
I know it goes against his pulling of Duncan end of game 6, but its still the "have your best players out there" philosophy. Manu was playing like shit in game 6, but Pop developed a sense of trust in him over the years. Didn't seem to pan out in game 6. Manu did hit 3/4 free throws in the final minute, but that one miss was brutal.Wrong. The senile Pop has that new "have your best players out there" mentality. The old Pop would yank a player no matter how important he was to the team. Remember Pop yanking out Stephen Jackson in Game 6 of the 2003 NBA Finals against the Nets when he was a starter? Remember Pop yanking out Tony Parker for Speedy Claxton or Brent Barry? Those types of decisions were made by Pop in his prime.
Ironically senile Pop yanked out Tim Duncan in the last 28 seconds of Game 6 for playing well while Pop kept insisting on leaving that 36 year old washed up SG of Manu on the floor the entire game.

So you are for replacing Pop as head coach with Lionel Hollins. Think we make it as far?
Hollins improved his team every single year, it's pretty remarkable...
I just wish we let someone else get a crack at this roster... Pop is mentally destroyed, if you did a MRI scan of his brain you'd see a mini Eric Spoelstra living in there, beat him with a team of scrubs in his house in the regular season, basically beating him at his own game and taking a huge dump on him and then pulled off the biggest mindfuck in nba history when he took advantage of Pop choking in the Finals.
Even Phil Jackson never humiliated Pop like that, it's over, old fart is punch drunk, senile, whatever you want to call it. Look at Riley helping his team from the stands and watching tape with Speolstra, guy is helping his team the best way he can, complete opposite of Pop...
People want to be romantic about the Spurs and want the 4 main guys to retire/leave together but it's stupid as fuck, it means some of them won't leave at the right/rational time, it's anti Spurs, Robinson left at the right time for instance, he left on top and didn't drag his team down like Manu and Pop are gonna do the next two years.
You can say that everything went wrong but if you look at it objectively everything went extremely right, from Westbrook getting injured to the Pacers taking the Heat to a game 7... Nothing could have gone better, so when the conditions were that favorable and you still can't do it then any rational person will tell you that you can't do it bar none as constructed...

Your question is an exercise in futility. Popovich isn't stepping down so there's no need to name a replacement.
Btw, you asked who do you WANT to coach, not who's available. To your point about Phil, he's not coming back to coach the Spurs but I wouldn't put it past him to coach again.

So pop is the worst coach in the nba and anybody else would do better?

BRAVO! I am very amused to see that someone at PTR is not a Popsucker. I tried visiting that website one time but I just can't stand the horde of Popsuckers and Manutards on that place.
Excellent read tbh. The best I've seen from PTR.
How can you be over the loss yet you haven't rewatched any of the games? SMH... typical Popsucker reaction. "I'll forgive Pop for anything he does. Actually, Pop can do no wrong."I agree. Pop has gone senile for quite some time now. LOL, I remember Pop once calling Manu "crazy." God I miss that old Pop. If Pop thought that Manu was crazy back then, then I can't believe he failed to see that Manu was mentally disturbed during the NBA Finals. Wrong.
Boom. Truth nuke.

worst thing about Pop is the lack of accountability. It seems like the local media is scared to call him out. He was better before developing that air of Ambassador of American/European basketball. He has these false modesty moments about how his legacy is food and wine, but clearly doesn't want to leave while he has another chance of adding to his legacy. Not saying he needs to be replaced, because this is not your average roster, but wish he would get his shit straight.
I do think we should have held onto Bud but that ship has sailed. Pop deserves a lot of credit but should also be notified of when he keeps fucking stuff up, whether that's because of his ego or he had too much to drink, I don't know. I don't mind him sticking around with Duncan but we should actively be finding a good replacement.

He's in that rare company with the likes of Bobby Knight and Bill Parcells that had the media pissing down their legs at the thought of any tough questions regarding essentially anything around the team or their decisions.

all 3 are great coaches and it could be a lot worse, but their stubbornness cost them, as did media not calling them out earlier for their dumb shit.

Your right, he is in that exactly presence with those two right there and media is scared to ask a real question or side step him.

The problem is even if the media calls him out he tries to belittle them so they don't do it again. The only guy who asked him why he didn't foul at the end of game 6 was from Europe. He used that to criticize the guy even though it was a legitimate question. If you're not going to foul in that situation have use some other legitimate defensive strategy. The Spurs played no defense for the last 30 seconds of regulation. What good is it to focus on defense for the whole year and disregard it when you need it the most.

In defense of Pop he's obviously in an awful mood having just blown a championship after game 6 and who would be in the mood to defend themselves over coaching decisions that may have cost you the game and a chip? But on the other hand it is his job to answer these questions and he enjoys treating most of the media like they are losers that have stupid jobs and are just wasting his precious time.. Pop is not an easy man to play for or I imagine even be around for some people.. I don't know how many kids he has but he could not have been an easy father to please..

Pop is a dick to the media, and I wish someone would pull his card one night in the post game interview. It's getting old

in regards to Pop and the media, i remember right after Doris Burke asked Pop or Holt (can't remember) a few questions for the WCF trophy presentation, Pop suddenly turned into a drunk dick and told them to get lost. You shouldn't kiss the media's ass, but at least don't be insecure around others who might criticize you for your screwups.

He is funny at times but takes being a dick too far, like he is too proud and you can't question his almighty decisions, even when he F's up he is the kind to never ever admit it. He is is like the dad who screwed up a few times but will never admit it to the kids or his wife, just stays hard headed because of his ego. Great coach and I love him but he is to blame for this one here, period end of story.
