Huge hire for us, never even heard of him and now he's coaching a storied NBA franchise! Reflects very favorably on the Spurs organization. We are the farm team for GMs, head coaches, etc. that's amazing!

"Source says 76ers favor Brett Brown as new coach" (http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/sixers/20130802_Source_says_76ers_favor_Brett_Brown_as_ne w_coach.html)

"Brett Brown is the preferred candidate for the 76ers coaching job, according to a league source. If the job doesn't go to Brown, the search for Doug Collins' replacement would remain competitive, the source said. Portland Trail Blazers assistant David Vanterpool; Sixers assistant Michael Curry, a holdover from Collins' staff; and Boston Celtics assistant Jay Larranaga are believed to be the other serious contenders."

As Barkley said weeks ago, such a weird situation for Philly, not having signed a headcoach yet...

Avery Johnson?

Good God, no Avery Johnson. Besides, his ego is so big that he's unlikely to accept an assistant's job ever again in the NBA - and if Pop did offer him one, he'd probably orchestrate a coup to get him fired, so he could take over.

Some here might actually welcome that.

sloan would be awesome. i'd actually like avery. i think it's time for that prodigal son to return. david robinson back on the bench would be incredible. he could be our answer to the dream being back with the rockets.

Several head-coaching candidates will meet with Philadelphia 76ers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/phi) ownership in New York this week in a second round of interviews, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Four assistant coaches – Atlanta's Kenny Atkinson, San Antonio's Brett Brown, Chicago's Adrian Griffin and Boston's Jay Larranaga – are scheduled to meet with, Sixers managing partners Josh Harris and David Blitzer, among other team officials, sources told Yahoo! Sports

I don't know what's taking the Sixers so long. They're just looking for a coach to tank a couple of years so they can fire him.

Rumor is they are trying to get as much Intel as they can in the process.

Gonna go with my gut and say that the 76ers will make NBA history by starting the 2013-14 NBA season with NO head coach!

You heard it here first gentlemen. I'll be bumping this thread once October comes around.

They could bring in any coach on the face of the Earth and they would be tanking -- their roster is assurance of that. So I guess they're looking for someone who's good at developing players? For the same exact player, the difference in expected outcome between a player who goes to, say, the Spurs and that player going to the Bobcats is vast. If they're going to tank for raw talent, they need a chef that will cook it properly.

And hey, maybe they can find someone good enough to salvage Turner if they're really lucky.

I'm pretty sure that I read Tim Duncan didn't get along that great with Avery Johnson. Someone correct me if I am wrong. If Tim doesn't really like him, then he has zero chance of being hired (if Avery were to accept an assistant coach role).

you know it is not fair to the spurs for sixers to take this long to make up their mind about brown

If I'm Brett Brown, I call the Sixers and say, "Thanks, but no thanks". Taking this long to find a coach is a real sign of trouble.

About Last Night: Braves Don't Clown Around (http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/70696/about-last-night-braves-dont-clown-around)

•The NBA schedule was announced on Monday, with the reigning champion Miami Heat opening the season at home against Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls. From there every team will play 82 games, half at home, with its schedule distributed among other professional basketball teams and the Philadelphia 76ers, who have decided to field a team headlined by Kwame Brown and coached by no one. "We know that our fan base has the capacity to be patient while we retool and rebuild," said Sixers GM Sam Hinkie while his pants were being set on fire by Philadelphia superfan Gene Fallows. "And we hope to see growth from our young, OW OW HOT HOT HOT MY LEG!"
