Interesting...

I hope they crush Miami in the playoffs.

lot of big name players to manage

Starters
Williams
Johnson
Pierce
Garnett
Lopez

Bench
Terry

To a rookie coach, that's a gift and a course. Hopefully the East is much less of a cake walk with the Pacers, Bulls, Brooklyn, possibly the Knicks all getting better.

The Spurs just need to keep pace with younger teams like OKC, GSW (I think they will make a big jump) but they are as is a lock for a top 3 seed baring catastrophe.

Well, at least the Heat should have some competition in the East. I still think the Heat would easily beat the Nets but these Nets should be better than the 2013 Pacers.

If the Nets had a coach that would limit minutes during the regular season, I'd be worried about the Brooklyn. But with Kidd, I'd be really surprised if he doesn't run that team into the ground prior to the playoffs.

Disagree in Lakers comparison. Lakers failed bc Kobe won't be no 2, and Dwight just turned 13 maturity-wise. If Nets fail, it will be age and inexperienced head coach. I think Kidd will be better than most, though.

Good trade for both teams. For the Celtics, the latter two picks could be lottery picks. For the Nets, they had already dug the hole so deep, that it was worth it to deep it even deeper, because at least now they have an outside shot at a championship. I still can't imagine them winning it, but before this they had absolutely no shot.

The starting lineup looks good on paper and it is, but it's also severely lacking in athleticism/speed/quickness, while the bench is terrible and they don't have the money to upgrade it, either. Even if Terry bounces back, Teletovic and minimum salary scrubs are likely to fill out the remainder of the rotation (guys like Turiaf, Duhon, Wilkins, etc.).

Reggie Evans: 11rpg in 24 minutes last year. Any chance he gets waived seeing as though Boston will now suck? He's a bit of a spaz offensively but its not like he takes more then 5 shots per game and its not like we need him to score. He's a bit short but we could use his rebounding, strength and tenacity. Lets not forget we needed just 1 fucking rebound more and we'd be champions but whatever. Might be nice to have a strong interior presence unlike pansy Splitter and the Tweeners Bonner and Blair.

By including Wallace in the deal, they improved their cap number for 2015. Also, PP is off the books for 15M after next season. KG off for 12M the season after. That will be 27M off the books in a hurry if things don't work out basketball wise which is solid.

DPG21920
06-28-2013, 12:30 PM
Really, no way around it: It was a very good trade for BKY no matter what. Especially with their pocket books.

The combined 13’-14’ salaries of Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, MarShon Brooks, Keith Bogans, and Kris Joseph next season are about $24.1 million (this assumes that the Nets would not have re-signed Keith Bogans and would have guaranteed Kris Joseph’s contract).

Compare that $24.1 million number with what the Nets will now owe Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Jason Terry ($32,992,069) and you get a difference of about $8.9 million, i.e. the Nets will have about $8.9 million more in committed salaries next season with the trade than they would have had without it.

How does this impact the Nets salary cap situation for next season? It doesn’t. The Nets were so capped out already that adding more salary simply means that owner Mikhail Prokhorov will have to pay a higher luxury tax bill and a higher team salary.

We can pencil in roughly $94.7 million in committed salaries for Brooklyn next season (this not only assumes that C.J. Watson opts-out, but it also doesn’t count any potential Nets signings such as Andray Blatche or Bojan Bogdanovic this offseason).

In 2014-2015, the Nets would have an additional $6.1 million in committed salaries with the trade than without it for that season. It would make their total committed salaries stand at around $80 million (this assumes the Nets sign both Tornike Shengelia and Tyshawn Taylor to their qualifying offers). Once again, it would leave the Nets well over the cap and still over the tax-line in either scenario.

In 2015-2016, things start to change: instead of having more committed salary with the trade than without it, the Nets will actually decrease the amount of committed salary. The $10,105,855 that is owed to Gerald Wallace in that season is now on the Celtics. It would leave the Nets committed to around $59.4 million (assuming Mirza Teletovic signs a qualifying offer) as opposed to $69.6 milliob with Wallace on the roster for that season.

It could wind up being good for BOS, but we won't know that for a while. They really didn't get any cap relief, the players they got aren't that good or even good trade assets (maybe Hump's expiring) and their picks are of questionable value at the moment. Not a bad trade for BOS, but hard to tell how it will all work out for them right now.
