View Full Version : Spurs should sign Aaron Brooks!

He'd be a great backup to Tony Parker. He can create his own shot, has great ball handling skills, has very good court vision, and is ridiculously quick. He also is a tough and underrated defender. I've watched Brooks throughout his entire college career and has seen a lot of his professional career. He is a very hard worker. For those who remember him as a college player, may remember when he broke his hand his Freshman year from bunching the base of the hoop out of frustration, or getting suspended during the Pac-10 tournament for punching Ryan Appleby. However, I remember his SR year, where before the season, he took his teammates out, and got them running all Summer so they could outrun any team they played, which they did. He was very clutch, hitting a game winning shot against #1 ranked UCLA, and leading the team to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tourney despite playing with minimal talent. He is a great shooter and also can score on frenzies. His biggest weakness is his attitude and his inconsistency. He seems to play up or down to his opponents' level, meaning he plays crappy against crappy opponents sometimes, and amazing against really tough competition sometimes. All in all, I think the Spurs could get him for cheap and he would make a great addition to the team. The Spurs could then trade or release Joseph and try to make more room for a solid SF like Andre Iguodala.

He'll be a huge hole on defense, not a guy you want guarding the talented PG's of the west. Since Green usually guards the opposing PG, Brooks would be forced to guard a SG, and because of his size even a scrub would have his way with him.

The Spurs desparetely need a backup PG though. I'm not sure NDC/Cojo can fill that role, not until a few years at least.

Hell no. Shaun Livingston even at 90% offers the Spurs easy more flexibility than Brooks.

i honestly wouldnt mind having him, pg's can post him up but otherwise he's a decent on ball defender and is very talented offensively

i loved his play during the rockets-lakers series

More undersized guards.

Undersized yes, but couldn't be too much worse than our wanna be backup PG's who can't bring the ball up the court without a turnover..Being Joseph and Neal..DG too...We have needed a good back up every since TJ Ford left us

You guys are underestimating his defense, and he'd be a backup PG, so he'd guard PG's. He has very quick feet and hands, and he will never back down. He also has amazing ball handling skills, which this team has lacked from the second unit.

Rather have Joseph.

It be cool if Joseph develops a legit jumpshot this off-season. He'd be pretty mean next season!!

Brooks is not bad.

but Joseph is not bad either. IMO we need someone to replace Bonners minutes. backup PG is not a priority

How many PG do the spurs need?

cojo showed signs of improvement last season...we'd be better sticking with him this year and seeing how it plays out rather throwing money @ a FA would have to come in and learn the system

Only issue is that currently, even though CoJo knows the system, he hasn't shown the tools to use the same way that Tony does, not even at a reduced usage rate. That's why he was a non-factor against Miami but better against Memphis.
When he is in with Manu, he ain't a PG at all. He's a combo guard who handles the ball LESS than Manu.

That's why I hope the Spurs at least think about Shaun Livingston.

At least 5.
