I'm at a bbq party for my 20 something nephew and one of his buddies has already gone full attention whore by busting out his guitar....and it's not even dark outside yet.

He's not bad; I just think guitar guy at a party is a piece of shit. Lol.

Guitar girl is even worse, because then she starts singing hideous emo crap in a whining voice. If she wants to impress men she should put on an apron and carry some Pine-Sol instead tbh.

So I like having the occasional house party. I like getting all my crew up, getting some booze, putting some music on and everyone chatting and getting to know each other just chillin and shit.

And a large majority of the time that's how it goes. But occasionally someone will turn up with, of course, a fucking guitar.

Some of my friends are in garage bands and shit so they like to bring their guitars to parties and sit around having a 'jam', but the inevitable result of this is that everyone else at the party feels obliged to sit down, shut up and only open their mouth when a song is finished to tell the player how fantastic it was. You can't really talk over someone playing the guitar because it's rude and I've been told it's rude at my own parties by guitar players. But you can sit down and play a guitar over the top of people talking till they stop and give your ego a nice big wank when you're done. The inevitable result of guitars at parties is the few people who can actually play them becoming the focus of attention.

I've tried asking them not to bring them. They show up anyway. And if you ask them to go and play somewhere else they inevitably turn up in the living room or hallway again.

Fuck guitars at parties, guitars should be banned at all parties. Am I alone on this? Because I've received some backlash by banning them.

And why is it the only fucking song they know how to play is wonderwall?

TOODAY IS GONNA BE THE DAY THAT YOUR Ssomethin..somethin..BACK TO YOU

BY NOW YOU SHOULDA FOUND OUT siszosfs WHAT YOU HAD TO DO

I DON'T BELIEVE THAT ANYBOOOOOODY FEELS THE WAY I DO

*whole party chimes in*

Douchiness of guitar girl/guy is situationally dependent.

I tend to be receptive to party guitar if the player is a good friend of mine and/or if the group and party are known to be receptive to music. For instance, I have a lot of musically inclined friends who throw parties that include big jam sessions, and those can be hugely entertaining. However, if it's not that type of party, or if the guitar guy/girl is a relatively unknown attention whore, the sudden appearance of musical accompaniment is worthy of nothing more than a massive eyeroll.

If it's the lame douche whose only trick to get ladies to pay attention to him is to whip out a guitar and play wonderwall or any random weezer song, it's douchey 100% of the time.

Black people don't play musical instruments anymore. Being musically inclined/talented disappeared from that culture friggin decades ago.
I'd be ashamed as a black musician in the modern era. The black culture brought so much to the table from basically the beginning of time up until about the mid 80's.

Next time someone spots a black guy/child/teen/young man with a musical instrument in his hands(besides a mic or a sequencer) let me know.
Its a shame really...

When you listen to local bands / cover bands, whatever it may be, if the rhythm section (bass, drums) is black , that band is gonna have a good groove.

oh crap

Agreed, but that wasn't really the point. The evolution of black musicians who play mainstream instruments seems to have diminished to the point of obscurity vs decades ago. Also,a black vs white/ rhythm section isn't near the divide in "groove" as it used to be.

maybe it's just me but i can't think of too many prominent black musicians that aren't like rappers or djs or whatever. obviously they're out there that one nigga questlove is a beast on dem drums and niggas like prince are good at a shitload of instruments, but you don't really see that too much anymore. it could also because music generally sucks balls nowadays anyway and is overproduced to be catchy poppy bullshit so no one bothers

While I agree with this, it has still evolved even though not necessarily "real" instrumentation like back in the day. But think about it, Hip Hop became the new mainstream "rock" of the last say 15 years. So they still did evolve the sound of music, but they moved / influenced it in the heavily non-instrumentation direction we are at now.
