It probably has to do with him making Neal look like an All-NBA defender by comparison. Plus the fact that hes woefully inconsistent. Sure, he can beast from time to time. But typically anything he gains you he gives right back on the other end.

If you're the Spurs and you're gunning for 60 wins and a title every year, that's true. But most teams don't gauge their players based on whether they can be useful members of the rotation during the Finals. :lol

If you're somebody like the Pelicans, he could be your third or fourth big, be legitimately better than the alternatives, and help you win a few more games.

If Blair were a few inches taller, he'd probably be a legitimate starter for a bad team. The fact is that he's an undersized power forward with zero post moves and no "hops".

The Hawks have trouble filling seats.
If they are rebuilding/tanking, then hustle sells some tickets.
Blair, even when in major pout, always hustled.
Blair could also work Noguiera hard in practice.

Hope Blair gets a nice contract. I mean if the Knicks would pay Stoudemire guaranteed max money surely someone will throw a decent 3 year deal at DeJuan. Wish him nothing but the best in the next phase of his career, and I think he can put up some solid numbers with playing time.

Dejuan Blair is going to be a good 3rd big for someone. He can flat out score and he's not a bad rebounder at all. His height is what hurts him the most on the defensive end but he's certainly not Neal quality as some people here have stated in this thread. For a team that needs offense off the bench he'll definitely provide some.

I wish him the best.

I've got nothing against Blair. I hope he finds a good situation. He's got some limitations, but he's also got some skills and is a hard worker. He's never going to be an all-star, he probably won't ever be a key player on a championship caliber team, but barring something drastic happening with his knees I could easily see him being a guy who finds a way to stay in the league for another 10 years.

Could the Spurs do a sign and trade?

Theoretically they could, but it's highly unlikely they'd be able to pull it off. Blair isn't going to command that big of a salary, so pretty much every team out there will be able to fit his salary into their cap room, or one cap exception or another. Not much of a reason for a team to give the Spurs anything for Blair when they can just sign him outright.

Also need to keep in mind that if the Spurs are thinking about maximizing their own cap space, any player they'd take back from a Blair S&T would eat into that. The Spurs probably aren't interested in S&T'ing Blair either.

Nitpicking a couple points on a statline is entirely different from winning a title. They have nothing to do with eachother.

Yep, you're right. The 28/21 game was done in just 31 1/2 minutes and it helped propel a shorthanded Spurs team with Manu going 0/10 over OKC by a single point. Blair fouled out with 3 mins left, and RJ of all people hit the game winner that night. :lmao

But yeah, I remember that game still, it was a great game.
