So Ginobili gets paid 14 millions, plays inspired ball for Argentina when he should be resting, enters the NBA season fatigued and injured...misses a lot of games and plays like shit when he actually is able to suit up and chokes in the Finals(and all of the playoffs). He's made $93 million in his NBA career and piggybacked Duncan for three rings. I'd say his NBA career has been more than fair. If he had been paid that 65 million, it would of been one of the worst contracts in NBA history...especially considering how injury prone Manu is and his really terrible longevity(went from first option to fifth option in the span of two years...declining very fast).

Just to clarify, he turned down the possibility of a max new contract to get a max extension. At his age and coming off a terrible 2008-2009 season, he'd have taken a big risk by not waiting until the off-season. The extension also wasn't back-loaded to help the Spurs, it was just the max increase from his 2009-2010 salary, and then just max increases beyond that. They couldn't have given him the contract in any other form.

Monta Ellis is 27. Splitter is 28. AK is 32. Manu is 36 and just had the worst year of his career. There's no sign that he's getting better so it's likely he'll be even worse next season. It would be idiotic to pay someone 8 million when they can't even outproduce 40 year old Ray Allen in a Finals series.
