Glad Ginoboli is staying. I'm not sure how much they are paying him. That's what'll determine if it was a good signing or not. Knowing the Spurs front office, though, they aren't going to overpay tremendously on a free agent, so I'd bet they got relatively good deal.

I don't like his 8 turnovers in Game 6, but like it or not, he can still be an elite level playmaker. It took one of the NBA's best defenses to make him a turnover machine. Not many teams are good enough to do that. Basically the Heat. He did reasonably well against most other teams in the playoffs. He certainly picked his moments, but he showed that he could step up when needed. He struggled against Miami, though.

Hope he gets his 3 point shot back. Or maybe better, hope he learns what is a good three point shot and a bad one.

If he can learn to throw the ball off the opponent's leg when he's airborne and close to going out of bounds, instead of throwing back into traffic (as he did several times in the finals), that would cut his turnovers by a significant percentage. Doing this alone would have likely been enough to beat Miami. Of course, if he can just stop going airborne to make passes, that would be better altogether.

Game 6 was ours. Game 7 always felt like a loss, even though it was close.

Ginoboli was good against most teams. Miami is great at creating turnovers and while Ginoboli is good at making lemonade when the offense stalls, the one team that is good at picking off passing lanes is Miami. Basically, they are the worst team for him to freelance against.

I am glad. I love Manu. I just didn't love the end result of the season. But there is blame to go around. He just had the more obvious let down I think with turnovers; not making game winning plays.

Some were questioning whether he wanted to even play the game, so this proves he still has passion.

I just hope the money is fair, and if he took less knowing that the Spurs could have more money for more FA's well then it shows he's about the team as well.

As of this point, the Spurs do not have 10M in cap space. His cap hold is around 19M, but they can't sign him until July 10th. All the semantics happen on that day so it's no big deal.

The Spurs are not and never have been under the cap this offseason. Manu's cap hold is $19M, so the Spurs can resign him for any amount up to that without worrying about cap ramifications.

If it really is $10M, though, the Spurs won't be able to get under the cap by more than the MLE even if they amnesty Bonner and let Neal walk, I think. In that case, the Spurs would have the MLE to work with.

My only slight surprise is that Tiago got done first (because Manu's contract was the one I felt as more critical to making other moves). But they both got wrapped up with plenty of time to target FA's which is great if they choose to take that route.

When a FA leaves the country during FA, it's a pretty good sign that they know things are handled :lol

If Splitter's contract starts above his cap hold, the Spurs can just sign him last. The only way the Spurs would sign Splitter first is if the first year is under his cap hold, and it can't get that low on a 4/36 deal.

But you're right, the Spurs need to have the Splitter and Ginobili deals done so they know how much they can offer if they have cap room or the MLE.

Manu is not an all-star anymore. Quit trolling.
They are bad, I swear its like some of these posters didn't watch the finals. I would love manu to come back after we grabbed a FA that could really help us and he can have the money that's left. But saying keep manu at a very reduced contract, its like you are telling Jordan in his prime to these people to take a hike, I don't get it

Spur|n|Austin

Welp, there goes the hopes of signing a decent player. They'll use the MLE for a role player but that's it. The starting lineup is set now as well as the sixth man. If you know ANYTHING about the mind of a competitor they will not want to come off the bench. PERIOD. Champoinship or not.

So Manu is not a competitor? Is that what you're saying? :lol Sounds like you don't know ANYTHING about a competitor - at least ones who truly want what's best for their team..

Is it possible that the Manu agreed to take whatever room the Spurs have left after signing other FAs, with the provision that it is at least a certain amount? I mean, is it possible that the number hasn't actually been agreed to yet?

Would you willingly agree to such a disadvantageous deal with your employer? Sure boss, pay me less so you can pay my coworkers more, for the good of the company.

This will be the man's last professional contract. He has to go for the $$$. I expect $10M per.

Yes. Cause he's always been a part of this team. Don't tell me realistically that you think AK47 just turned down 11m per season to come to SA to be the 2ND player off the bench? Or Monta Ellis? Al Jeff? Anyone? yea right..

2nd player off the bench...7th player in the rotation..=wishful thinking.

YES!!!! If you're not a devoted fan of Manu Ginobili, future hall-of-fame player, you're not a true devoted fan of the Spurs. What makes the Spurs organization is loyalty and continuity. I would be heartbroken to see Mr. Ginobili in another team's uniform. The last uniform he should ever war is a Spurs uniform, and when he retires that uniform should be hung from the rafters for eternity. Hopefully, Manu's role - as far as minutes and taking over the sole playmaking responsibilities when he is on the floor go - can be reduced a bit. As for the money he is going to get, it's really hard to tell and probably depends on what other plans the Spurs' FO have regarding other signings or deals.

Thats true, he did stay pretty healthy all season, but he had one of the worst injuries a players can have... It's called old age.

Oh yea, father time is undefeated as guys like to say lol... It might mean him taking more 3's and driving less, so hopefully he's in the gym practicing his shot. I think he's too smart a player to not adapt to what his body can/can't do. Of course he'll have a head scratching play every now and then when we can use that great quote "it's what I do", but he'll also have an eye opening play every now and then.

It's obvious he took 10M tbh.

At first the Spurs were asking about big names like AK and Ellis and now it's Billups, Oden and Matt Barnes :lol.

Tim cut his salary in half. If Manu does the same, he'd be taking 7 mil

If Manu took the MLE, what would that leave us in cap space?

Just one more time. It helps with selling fouls. Also nostalgia.

Reminds me of the boxer who keeps boxing past his prime and keeps getting knocked out by guys who use to be his sparring partner.

Perfect analogy actually but I still have faith he's got something left and he isn't a complete fuck up.

If he had any decency he would have given back some of what he stole in 2012 to be allowed to play on the team in 2013.

It may be Manu paying the Spurs 10M to be allowed to throw the ball into the stands in crunch time. Makes sense.

No, Manu takes the cap space, leaving us the MLE to use. Doesn't work the other way around.

Most of the people on this forum are Popsuckers and Manu fan boys. They trash role players like Danny Green, Gary Neal, Dejuan Blair, yet they never say anything bad about Pop and Manu because "they have 4 championships therefore we need to worship them."

Danny and Gary did solid jobs and helped the team get where they did, but DeJuan? To be a role player, you have to have an actual role.

Hell yes!

Tbh, I can't be mad regardless of what Ginobili got money-wise. At this point in his career, the Spurs basically should have handed him a two-year deal and tell him to fill in the salary.

Obviously, Spurs fans should hope he decided to take as small a paycheck as possible so that other pieces could be added .... but since he's obviously not going to ask more than $10 million per season, I can't be mad at the number he selected.

10 million per season? Really? So if that was his preference, you'd be alright with him making more than Tim? :wakeup

His number is going to be south of $10 million per. Since his true market value is probably in the ~$7 million range, it'll probably be somewhere around that.

-Less than $5 million would be a steal and Manu will have been generous to give up money.
-$5-7 million per season would be fine and well deserved.
-$8-10 million would be a bit greedy on Manu's part but I'd rather pay him that than try to find a replacement.
-$10 million plus and I'd be mad.
