Pau accepted his role as a 2nd option despite being better than Kobe Bryant when it mattered most. It was what created two titles and fortified team chemistry.

Dwight wishes to be the star and was better at the role than Pau, but it is not his true role. Dwight might never accept his role and it will cause him to retire with empty fingers.
