......

It's not about knowing the future. It's about maximizing the likelihood of being the last team standing.

Vegas says that adding Dwight Howard to a roster of Harden, Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, Chandler Parsons, Patrick Beverley, Donatas Motiejunas, Terrence Jones, Greg Smith & Co. gives Houston about a 10-to-1 chance of winning the title this season. Before the Howard signing that was 20-to-1, according to Bovada. And bad as 10-to-1 sounds, only the Heat and Thunder have better chances. The Rockets are in the hunt with teams like the Bulls and Clippers.

The Thunder, better?!? Get the fuck out of here. No Martin, no internal improvement and Westbrook coming back from a serious injury.

What's funny are the Spurs are 8-1 favorites to win, so he just completely left them out.

Abbot is just giving you Vegas odds which are based on how much money is/will be laid down on a particular team. The Spurs are always a longer shot than they should be because nobody puts money on them. Part of the reason I was so pissed they lost the Finals. I put $200 on them to win the whole thing when they were 15-1. I should invoice Pop.

Vegas odds are based on current betting trends, not team analysis. They need the money to come out even so that the losers pay the winners, and the house gets their cut. More popular teams draw more betting action, because, well, fans are dumb. They then have to offer longer odds and a better payoff to good, yet unpopular teams like SA to draw action.

Vegas gave Bulls an 8-1 odds with Rose coming back. Seems fair, but Houston going up to 10-1 after basically depleting their bench is far fetch. Lakers were rated like 3rd last year after Acquiring Howard and Nash, behind OkC and the Heat.

rockets would have to be what, in horsing terms, is referred to as a 'false favorite'

How in the fuck does OKC have better odds of winning the championship? Makes no sense.

RefKC is becoming really overrated considering how much worse their roster has become....

The recent signings didn't hurt the team who is just 2.0sec to their 5th ring. the addition of younger Beli who can score + the solid Jeff Pendergraph is an ugrade actually.

while the rest of the NBA are mostly in the rebuilding process, the Spurs are into upgrading.

I doubt if they are done already, something might still be in the works.

Say what? Completely false. Vegas set the odds with their professional handicappers. Everything in your post is not true at all. Their handicappers analyze the team..or teams...and set the line accordingly. Its up to you which side you wanna choose. Only time Vegas moves the line is when heavy action falls to one side and they adjust accordingly but once again the line was already set by handicappers that studied the teams and went from there.
