Rand Paul Threatens to Filibuster James Comey's FBI Nomination

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., threatened Tuesday to filibuster the nomination of James Comey to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation if current FBI Director Robert Mueller fails to produce answers about the bureau's use of drones within the United States.

Paul initially asked Mueller to explain the FBI's use of drones in a June 20 letter after Mueller told the Senate Intelligence Committee his agency was using the unmanned devices without clear guidelines.Paul initially asked Mueller to explain the FBI's use of drones in a June 20 letter after Mueller

It's unclear why the FBI did not immediately provide answers. FBI spokesman Paul Bresson told U.S. News on Friday that the bureau is "still in the process of responding" to Paul's letter.

Maddow: Does the GOP want to be more than a party of aggrieved white people?

New revelations about Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) made MSNBC host Rachel Maddow wonder Tuesday night if the Republican Party was really interested in becoming more than a “party of aggrieved white people.”

Maddow began by noting the Rand Paul’s father, former Texas Rep. Ron Paul (R), had published newsletters filled with racist sentiments, though he insisted he didn’t write them himself. However, he later appointed the person accused of writing the racist screeds to the advisory board of his new institute.

“It is because all that has happened already that you might be forgiven today if today’s flurry of reporting about a Rand Paul Senate staffer felt a little bit like deja vu,” she remarked.

The Washington Free Beacon, a conservative publication, reported Tuesday (http://freebeacon.com/rebel-yell/) that Rand Paul’s director of new media was an avid supporter of the Confederacy who celebrated John Wilkes Booth’s birthday. The aide, Jack Hunter, had served as a chairman for the League of the South and warned America would no longer be America if white people were not the racial majority. :lol

The same aide was hired by former Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) to write a book. Maddow noted that DeMint was now head of the Heritage Institution, which faced criticism earlier this year after publishing a report on immigration that was co-authored by a man who believed Hispanic people were inherently less intelligent that white people.

“Should the Republican Party be just the party of aggrieved white people, even to the extent that it may stray occasionally into Confederate territory in order to do that?” Maddow wondered. “Do you want that in order to maximize every possible white vote you can get out of an electorate that is less and less white all the time?”

The other option was to become a multi-racial party. But Maddow observed that the conservative media appeared to be unanimous in its opinion: Stick with white voters.

Rand doesn't really excite like Ron did.

Dude is not only boring but he barely takes stands on things and flip flops a lot.

Dr. Paul. The last real gentleman in US politics.

Rand Paul defends secessionist aide: Confederate flag like smoking pot
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/fox_an_paul_rice_130605c-615x345.jpg

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) says that an aide who believes in secession and has a history of wearing Confederate flag masks should be forgiven because he is “incredibly talented” and his mistakes are similar to using marijuana.

Paul stood behind Hunter while distancing himself from some of his rhetoric.

“I’m not a fan of secession,” Paul explained. “I think the things he said about John Wilkes Booth are absolutely stupid. I think Lincoln was one of our greatest presidents. Do I think Lincoln was wrong is taking away the freedom
of the press and the right of habeas corpus? Yeah.”

“If I thought he was a white supremacist, he would be fired immediately,” he added. “If I thought he would treat anybody on the color of their skin different than others, I’d fire him immediately.”

When Fineman asked about the Confederate flag mask, Paul compared it to smoking pot.

“It was a shock radio job,” the Kentucky Republican opined. “He was doing wet T-shirt contests. But can a guy not have a youth and stuff? People try to say I smoked pot one time, and I wasn’t fit for office.”

Why Libertarians Will Never Shake Their Neo-Confederate Ties (http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2013/07/11/2285001/why-libertarians-will-never-shake-their-neo-confederate-ties/)

http://thinkprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Southern-Avenger.jpg

Despite the man’s racist past (http://web.archive.org/web/20071104071254/http://www.southernavenger.com/82/?form_58.userid=4&form_58.replyids=397), Senator Rand Paul is standing with an embattled aide, the aide’s Confederate sympathies be damned. In an interview with the Huffington Post today, Rand Paul defended (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/11/rand-paul_n_3577196.html?utm_hp_ref=tw) his co-author and close confidante Jack Hunter, formerly an incendiary shock jock known as the “Southern Avenger,” on the grounds that “can a guy not have a youth and stuff?”

Paul’s insistence on standing by Hunter (who, for his part, has moderated (http://www.theamericanconservative.com/washington-free-beacon-vs-jack-hunter/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=washington-free-beacon-vs-jack-hunter) and repudiated (http://www.southernavenger.com/uncategorized/my-statement-on-recent-attacks/) parts of his past) is a perfect encapsulation of the fundamental problem preventing the GOP from broadening its appeal to young people and minorities: core constituencies won’t let it.

Republicans’ own research among young voters found (http://images.skem1.com/client_id_32089/Grand_Old_Party_for_a_Brand_New_Generation.pdf) the words most associated with the GOP to be “closed-minded, racist, rigid, [and] old-fashioned.”

The problem, though, is that the libertarians that rise to Republican prominence tend to have some pretty awful racial baggage. As MSNBC’s Benjy Sarlin details (http://tv.msnbc.com/2013/07/09/rand-paul-cant-understand-why-black-voters-dont-vote-gop-heres-a-clue/), Rand, like his father Ron, came from a “states-rights” libertarian tradition brimming with neo-Confederate sympathizers. Hence Ron’s famously racist newsletters (http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2011/12/27/395391/fact-check-ron-paul-personally-defended-racist-newsletters/) and Rand’s famous opposition to the Civil Rights Act (http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2013/04/10/1847751/rand-paul-falsely-says-he-never-opposed-the-civil-rights-act/); where they come from, these views aren’t all that uncommon.

That’s not say to say that the Pauls are racists themselves, but rather that they’re beholden to a constituency who is. Libertarianism is, right now, a very small movement very much on the political margins. The neo-Confederates continue to make up (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2013/07/10/the-libertarian-war-over-the-civil-war/) a significant portion of the libertarian movement (if not its intellectual ranks), partly due to a self-described “Outreach To The Rednecks (http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2011/12/the-story-behind-ron-pauls-racist-newsletters/250338/)” campaign orchestrated (http://reason.com/archives/2008/01/16/who-wrote-ron-pauls-newsletter) by leading libertarian theorist Murray Rothbard.

damn, this RP asshole is really, really stupid

Rand Paul: Filibuster prevents ‘extremist’ Maddow from being Supreme Court justice“I think the leverage of using the filibuster to get information and to make the President obey the law, I think it is a very important tool and our Founding Fathers put it in there for precisely this reason,”

Rachel Maddow is a joke. She is an Obama jizz drinker. Rand Paul is 1,000 times more liberal than Obama on civil liberties yet Obama jizz drinkers like Maddow don't care. They only care if you support gay marriage and abortion. Those are the biggest two issues in human history.
