Lakers pay more taxes than other teams, there's a reason why they always get the best deals from Stern imho

And the bottom feeders will reap the rewards of Stern collecting quarters falling out of Laker's pockets. Perhaps the Cleveland Cavliers and San Antonio Spurs will send a gift basket?

Most Expensive roster in the League? - 100 million Dollars
Most expensive luxury tax? - 30 million dollars
Paying 30 million in taxes while not winning a single playoff game? - Priceless

There are some things that money can't buy. For everything else, there's Jimmy's mastercard.

I think they're already starting to offload viable assets for 2014. Obviously Kobe and Pau should be amnesty targets #1 and #2 but they bring more revenue than their paychecks.

Artest was expiring and had nothing to do with their 2014 situation. nor did it clear up cap space to pick anybody up for this season. it was simply to save jimmy some coin.

Why on earth do the Lakers need money?

Isn't their 20 yr Time Warner contract worth $3.6 Bill?

That's basically $ 180/yr from TV money alone. Add merchandise profit and ticket sales, you're sitting on a $250 mil jackpot.

Kobe is the main cash cow for the Lakers imho. LA people may prefer MWP to kobe but Kobe still has the biggest fan base (probably even bigger than Lebron) overseas which contribute more to the Lakers financially than LA residents imho. They cut MWP instead of Kobe because amnestying Kobe would end up costing them even more $ in the long run imho

1/5 goes to the league, and another significant chunk of it is flushed down the toilet every time Jimbo puts a roster together.... if I were Time Warner, I'd demand my money back :lol
