Los Angeles Lakers (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/teams/los-angeles-lakers/index.html)guard Kobe Bryant (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/players/3118/index.html)is expected to be paid $32 million in the last year of his contract for next season.

At 34 years of age last season, Bryant played at a All-NBA level, averaging 27.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and six assists before tearing his Achilles tendon at the end of the year.

When it comes to re-negotiating a new contract with the team, Bryant is likely not about to play for a one-year minimum salary worth $1.45 million. He was asked if there was any chance of him taking a pay cut in 2014.

“I’m not taking any at all – that’s the negotiation that you have to have.” Bryant told Lakers Nation on Wednesday (http://www.lakersnation.com/lakers-news-kobe-bryant-not-planning-to-take-a-pay-cut-in-2014/2013/07/10/). “For me to sit here and say, ‘Oh yeah, I’m just going to take a huge pay cut. Nah, I’m going to try to get as much as I possibly can.”

He will be a Laker, be given a blank check and be left to decide the fate of the franchise.

Simple.

Anything more than $15 million a year is overpaying. And I'm being generous. What was Timmy and KG's last contract look like? Kobe's probably thinking how much money Mike made when he was in his late 30's.

Kobe will decide his own salary, there will be negotiation. He can decide to aim low and give his team a chance or aim high and never realize his 6th ring.

Kobe might take a paycut down to 22-25 million or something

My guess would be $42 mil over 3 years and the third would be a player option.

Even at $22-25 mil/yr, I think that would still make him as the highest paid player, if I'm not mistaken.

I agree $15 million max. He asks for more deservedly or not that shows his priority is money over #6. I can't be mad none of you would take less if you had leverage.

What nobody is saying (except Bryant himself if the OP's quote is accurate) is that Bryant's priorities are in this order. 1. Highest salary in history 2. Most points in history 3. Dictate all decisions for the franchise 4. Most points in history 5. Most power in history 6. Most points in history 7. If it so happens along the way to win another ring, then hey, so be it. Seriously, anyone who thinks - at this point - that Bryant is about winning championships is just facing the reality of who Bryant is. He's run prime Shaquille out of town, and now Dwight. The championship talk gets him more money. It's simply posturing.

That's fine. I'm content with 5 and getting to watch Kobe become Achilles, followed by The Sweep and The Begging. The fall has been spectacular...and now Kobe will make sure that you will remain in the ashes.

I've said all along that Kobe will take every penny he can possibly get.

The maximum he can get with the Lakers will be a contract starting at $31,976,495 with annual raises of $2,398,237.

A max 3-year contract then totals $103,124,196. 4 years would be $142,295,402, and the longest possible contract of 5 years totals $183,864,845.

All this talk of Laker cap space next summer to sign LeBron or Carmelo is laughable. Kobe will take up over half of the cap by himself. Do any of us really think the Lakers would just let him walk?

Amnesty that. No, really. It's the only way out.

Well, I certainly had Christmas in June. I was enabled to return triumphant because your entire core shit a bed, with your top 2 legends (Pop & Duncan) squatting first & last. I get to hold onto 5-4 Kobe over the tired old shit bag Duncan for at least another year as well.

June was good to me too. 7 games against the best player in the world when Old Man Riverwalk should have been thinking about the retirement home having already put 4 in the case? I'll take it. We both view the glass the same way...we just stare at it from different angles.

If Kobe accepts vet min I'd like my team to take him anyday. question is he still wants the biggest $ he can possibly get, and he will get whatever money he wants whether in LA or elsewhere (Europe or China), because his name is Kobe Bryant.
