You surely meant "refuse to come off the bench". Secondly, the Lakers have to pay the difference of his salary. So, if we pay him 2 million, Lakers pay him 5 million. Either way, he gets paid. Third - we have no backup SF at the moment. Dude has 2 rings. We could do worse.

big fan of Metta. nig is like the syd barrett of the nba. not sure how good his athleticism is at this point, but to be fair, i'm sure Pop would use him much better and sparingly than 'Antoni.

Yes I did mean that, working 40 hours a week combined with taking two summer classes, one 4 week, and the other 8 week, has ruined my ability to think clearly. Of course we could do much worse, but I honestly don't think he'd do anything for SA. His FG% has gotten pretty bad and his ball handling is getting worse and worse, and he has no lateral quickness anymore.

He'll end up in Miami. If they amnesty Miller, Metta would be a good pickup for them for the vet min. He'd be their Kawhi stopper.

Metta can offer value as a back-up. He has lost a lot of quickness but he's still serviceable and experienced. If he doesn't want to play here, so be it, we'll be fine. We have until the trade deadline to find a solution not named McGrady.

According to a person with knowledge of World Peace's situation, the list of teams that he would most like to play for starts with the New York Knicks and is followed in order by the Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and the Indiana Pacers.

I think he could help us off the bench, but I don't think he'd be interested in playing here. Not sure if there is any interest on our end, either.

I like him. The lock out season, he looked like he spend most of it body building before realizing he was a basketball player.

This past season, he got in much better shape. Can still defend and 12pts, 5 rpg isn't bad. When engaged can be a pest on the court, if all else fails he can throw bows like no other.

T-Mac makes more sense. Kawhi should be 'round 36 mpg. Tmac can play SF for 12 minutes, and is an excellent passer. Probably still more athletic than MWP is...

I don't think anyone here is claiming that he is anywhere near his prime, but 12 and 5 aren't too shabby for a bench player that will get the veterans' minimum. He is sadly the best option for the most glaring whole on our roster.

He got 12 & 5 by taking more shots than he should and playing A LOT more minutes than he should.

If you make the (reasonable) assumption that he would get roughly the same shots/min that Captain Jack did last year, it translates to 6.5 & 3 - without the ability to D up the modern wings.

You can get more than that from Boris as the backup 3, all without the risk MWP brings.

And those who support taking a risk on Artest are the same who don't like the Pendergraph signing. They just want the risk to be a name they've heard of.

Pendergraph is a risk: injury riddled, unproven, but strong, athletic, & skilled enough to be a rotation 4 in this league.
Artest is a known commodity: bad shot selection, overall game in decline, unable to guard legit wings at this stage.

Actually, I really like the Pendergraph signing AND support the risk required to bring in MWP. They obviously play different positions, so I believe the comparison is more mutually exclusive as you think. As I stated, he would be a quality back up at a glaring whole for us. You are right that he would not be able to guard "legit" wings in the league. My point is, that he wouldn't be expected to - that's Kawhi's job. MWP would be expected to defend the other teams' backup wings - which he is more than capable of doing.

Basketball wise it makes sense..he'd help limit Kawhi minutes and would be solid starter if Kawhi got hurt..

He's a better all around player than AK47...so I don't understand why Spursfans would consider AK over him. He's just a little weird lol

if we're only worried about a guy who can come in guard back-up wings, let Boris do it. Boris is probably a better defender of big wings at this juncture (if it's a small wing, just play Green/Belinelli as backup 3) and has infinitely better shot selection offensively.

that MWP would be a "quality" backup assumes facts not in evidence. he was pretty rough this past season, with his counting numbers looking better than they were because LA had no other wings beyond Kobe and had to play him 33 mpg.

Personally, I would like to see Boris AND MWP on the floor at the same time coming off the bench. I think Boris will have a BIG year, but it never hurts to have good (at least above average) players at the end of the bench. As for how much MWP has left in the tank or what we can expect from him, we'll just have to agree to disagree. So many on this forum were upset when we cut SJ, but MWP was a far better player than he was this past year - and most aren't willing to give him a nod. If your saying that you don't want him because of his obvious craziness and you fear that he will mess up team chemistry (although I haven't seen evidence to suggest this to be true) - then I understand. But if you're saying that you don't want him for a vet minimum salary because you think he's done, then we'll have to disagree there.
