That team was awesome that year. Their emotional leader was the combo of Hedo and Rashard, Rafael Alston was Mr. Reseliant, and Dwight was the best talent on the floor. I doubt Skip forgot the starting 5.

ROFL he didnt get any blame by anyone other than Laker/Kobe haters for 06 or 08.

2004 he got some blame, but that's because he completely destroyed the team with his off-court troubles.

But 06 and 08? No, everyone was running around saying "this is still the best basketball player on the planet and going to go down as the best basketball player of all time" when he wasn't. Everyone blamed his supporting cast in 06 and everyone blamed Pau Gasol going soft against KG, and Bynum's injury in 08.

Meanwhile, every single time the Mavs lose in the playoffs, who gets blamed in the national media? Dirk. Every single time Cleveland lost in the playoffs, who got blamed? Lebron. Same for Wade, CP3, Dwight, and others.

I'll ask you the same question Nelly dodged: Does Shaq 3-peat without Kobe? Before you answer that, remember who used to blister that Spur ass just to get to the Finals. Or the Blazers. Or the Queens... because if you replace Kobe to prop up your theory that Shaq would have won with anyone else, I'll need statistical proof. I don't know of any player that was in the NBA that would have done the same damage on both sides of the floor the way Kobe did until Shaq was evicted. Candidates: T-Mac, Grant Hill, Penny, AI, Vincanity, Bron, Wade.

Fact: Kobe was a better overall player than all of them at that time.
Fact: Since The Big Eviction! Kobe: 2, Daddy: 1

You act like Kobe was #2 in every single series. I know this is a Spur board, but that's disengenuous DPG. I know for a fact that while TD and Robinson held Shaq in check for the most part, it was Kobe that went bonkers leading to you guys going out to get Bruce Lee Bowen.

And the bolded is very debatable. Even MJ himself picked Kobe over LeBron. Say what you want about LeStats but he had to collude to win. You're thoughts of him likely diminish if 6 never happened. But your boys fucked up and let him off the hook. He should buy Ray Ray a Bentley. ;)

It's funny that people prop LeBron up for making it through the Leastern Conference in 2007. When he played the Spurs, he was swept - and no one said shit. He colludes to play on a stacked team, now he's the best thing since sliced bread. If we won in Cleveland - a team that was built around him - I'd give him his props. But he didn't.

You are looking at box score stats. The fact Shaq had the other team's most dominant players giving him all the attention, in addition to him being an elite passing big man, is the reason Kobe at times appeared to take the lead. It was all driven by Shaq being the man and doing what it took to win (score, pass, draw attention...). That's not to say Kobe was not great/is not great, but that is the honest truth - take it for what it's worth.

MJ has proven himself to be one of the worst talent evaluators of all time. That is not hyperbole either.

Kobe was a lucky as Tim Thomas 3ptr away from a major upset of the heavily favored and stacked Suns. This with Kwame as his center, Smush at the 1, Cook at the 4, etc. That was a putrid supporting cast to say the least. Question of the day, where are the players that Kobe was made to play with at now? Other than LO, are any of them in the league? Tells you what Kobe had to deal with. Impact. :lol

I know u want to compare the two, but its pointless. Kobe bitched his way onto a team that outspent everyone from the start, a team that always got great talent. Those Cav teams were nothing special outside of Lebron. You put Rapist on those Cav teams instead of Lebron and they are much more of a joke. Put Lebron on those stacked, blockbuster teams with prime Shaq...shit, probably win at least 5.

Depends. I mean 01 was gonna happen if I suited up next to Shaq. 02 shouldn't have happened, but with the basketball "gods" behind the Lakers it was destiny anyways.

'00 is the biggest question, so you're probably right on that one. You'd need an all star caliber 2nd banana to win, so any of the big name SGs at the time woulda worked

No, but the Spurs are the best barometer for both players. They both played the Spurs when young and in their prime. Both are wing players. But only Kobe was able torch the Spurs when the Spurs were at their best... from 2001-2007.

Another factoid: You took advantage of Bird, Magic, and Zeke getting old.
Another factoid: You took advantage of the league getting watered down with the cHeat, T'Pups, Grizzlies, etc. watering down the league talent
Another factoid: You pushed off and got away with it.

This may be a Spurs board, and I am certainly a Spurs fan, but I am being totally unbiased when I say that Nelly rained down truth bombs on that First Take clip. I think he had a lot more to say, but held back. Kobe is a spoiled brat, and when the Lakers FO traded Shaw away to placate Kobe, the assembly of the brat known as Kobe Bryant was completed.

The media saying Howard couldn't handle the bright lights of LA is nonsense, and a complete copout...nothing more. They simply couldn't accept that they got dumped. LA is like that stuck up girl at school, who has been voted most beautiful... Somebody comes along and says they don't want to go to the prom with her, and immediately, people say something must be "wrong" with the person who rejected her.

:lol kobe was IN the supporting cast for 60% of his titles, and arguably '10 as well (kirby definitely deserved fMVP in 09, but '10 probably should have been pau)

Kobe NEVER had seasons like LeBron has had in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 where he was the undisputed best player in the league, MVP, and Finals MVP. People going on and on about clutchness when just about every clutch stat shows kobe is below average and just jacks up a ton of shots, while LeBron averages more ppg in game 7's than anybody else in NBA history, including MJ

Not to mention Kobe is under 41% from the field for his career in the NBA finals. :lmao

Why do people feel the need to talk about Nelly's career? That's not the topic nor the point of the thread and what was said.

Don't be obtuse it speaks to credibility. If he is not expert in his given field (hip hop) why would anyone care about his bball takes? Maybe he is speaking truth but his words carry no weight, also cuz his lyrical skills lack substance I can't take someone that raps e-i-o seriously.

If that is the case, you can't take many rappers seriously. For that matter, you can't even take Jordan seriously (or Kobe) because look at their talent evaluation skills.

But they are both experts on playing hoops. If MJ criticized Kobe and I'm sure he has, you respect it cuz he is arguably the GOAT. Nelly is not even a top 25 rapper all time. Half of wutang is better. Both members of outkast, tribe, blackstar, common, Jay, Kanye, Rakim, Chuck D, Cube, DMX Em, NAS, Black Thought all could shit better raps than Nelly tbh.

DPG21920
07-16-2013, 10:40 PM
:lol that is the weirdest logic ever. Rapping has nothing to do with basketball. At all. Someone could be an awful rapper but a much better student of the NBA and their opinion would obviously be more valid.

Being an expert on playing hoops, does not (as evidenced by MJ's failed attempts) make you good at evaluating talent.

mj's failed attempts are overblown :lol he drafted players based on potential. its called lottery for a reason, you take gambles, each is an unknown commodity, it can be based on luck. there are too many great college players that didn't amount to anything in the pros, otoh, there are players that didnt flourished in college but completely developed their skills under a different program. gm's who picked them doesn't make them less qualified than you or me, now granted there are some who continually failed at that level but its a risk they take.

morrison was a big time college player in his division, kwame was a HS player that had tons of potential, in an era where HS players were making a lot of noise, it was a logical move. morrison was questionable, but no one thought, not even morrison himself thought he'd sucked that bad at the pros. you can't fault mj for taking risks.

callo1

Kobe is a great player, and there is no denying that, but his success has gone to his head.

One moment Kobe is taking about how much he hates to see MWP leave the team, and how important he was to winning a ring, and the next he is stating that he won't take less money so a better team can be built around him. Black Mamba clearly making an asp of himself.

Howard is by all means no angel, but he was smart to leave LA. As long as Kobe was there, losses would always be blames on Howard, and wins would always be attributed to Kobe.

It's the high school player syndrome in my opinion. Everybody who comes straight from high school without being in college at least a year has exhibited signs of douchebaggery and a sense of entitlement. High school basketball has and always was "pass it to the best scorer and let him lead the team to the championships" while college stressed the importance of running sets and playing team ball.

Kevin Garnett had this douchebaggery
Lebron James had this in Cleveland
Josh Smith is just... Josh Smith
Kwame "pick me, and you'll never regret it" Brown :lol
Dwight Howard's a mental midget
Andrew Bynum
the list goes on...

The point of this is basically that Kobe was and still is immature at every level, no matter how old he is. He can't ever own up to his mistakes and blames other teammates and wants his teammates to bail him out after he misses his shots. The present case with Dwight is just the same shit that every other big encountered: Shaq was pissed because he had to clean up Kobe's misses, Bynum hates Kobe for not giving him the ball in the post, and Dwight was just smart enough to not let Kobe blame him for losses anymore - plain and simple.

The fuck outta here with that Naruto. All the media talks about is how Kobe is such a warrior playing with sprained pinkies.

Not really. With the rise of Lebron James Kobe's legacy has begun to shrink, media throughout the playoffs consistently talked about how clutch Lebron is and how unclutch Kirby is with his 7-27 and no go-ahead buckets in the clutch since the PHX series in 06.

This will only get worse for Kirby stans as players like KD and Alpha continue to get better, people will realize how 80% of Kirby's career is sidekick status and how he only earned one FMVP in 09. So, unless he somehow sidekicks himself to the Finals and manages to steal the FMVP, he will continue to drop on everyone's all-time list to the point that even his stans will admit he's a top 20 player at best.

• A new "renegotiation and extension" provision allows an existing contract to be renegotiated so the player is paid a smaller amount over a longer period, but the player's salary cannot decrease by more than 40 percent. Renegotiations previously could only increase a player's salary.

Citing viewer demand, NBA adds breaking Kobe’s nose to annual All-Star events

http://cdn1.tauntr.com/sites/default/files/KOBENOSE-HEADLINE.jpg (http://cdn1.tauntr.com/sites/default/files/KOBENOSE-HEADLINE_0.jpg)

Orlando, FL--At the All-Star game Sunday night, league officials breathed a sigh of relief when the NBA’s new Kobe-punching initiative debuted to near-unanimous fan approval. Acting on the league’s behalf, Dwyane Wade broke the prickly Lakers star’s nose and sent the Amway Center crowd into a frenzied state of rapture.
“Hindsight being 20/20, we should’ve added breaking Kobe’s nose to All-Star weekend a long time ago. Fans have been begging for it since at least 2003,” says Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver. “We at the league office have learned our lesson, though. We’d like to announce that at each All-Star weekend moving forward, we’ll find a new and creative way to hit Kobe right in his arrogant face.”
The league plans to utilize social media to gather fan ideas for next year’s iteration of what NBA sources now refer to as Mamba Mash. According to Silver, “some fans want to see Kobe sneering at reporters, cursing like a thirteen year-old trying to impress some upper-classmen before receiving a stiff jab between the eyes. Others would rather see him freeze out key teammates and force up bad shots, glaring indiscriminately at anyone bold enough to share the court with him until some teammate gets fed up and delivers a knockout haymaker.”
Even if their preferred violence delivery method fails to get picked next year, Silver encourages fans to keep the ideas coming. “Fact is the guy is still just 33 and fan desire to see him physically harmed shows no signs of slowing; we'll have plenty of time to explore all of these options.”
