most great players has an extra gear in the postseason. lebron james is the exact opposite.

His PER, FG%, TS% PPG etc goes down.

whats worse is his performance becomes worse in the finals (shooting 43%)

all this despite having multiple players that removes pressure from him (shooters like allen, battier and mike miller) and all star players like wade and bosh.

it's baffling tbh

Because he ain't the goods. He ain't MJ incarnate. Hell, you had him beat, flat out beat and fled the side door, hair on fire.

But, he's it. And if you don't like it? Tough titties. Lump it...go around the corner there, right there, & dump it.

:cry but Kobe got to play with one of the greatest centers of all time in his prime

:cry Lebron couldn't carry Larry Hughes and Mo Williams to a title

:cry therefore, Kobe > Lebron (cause he as more ringzzz)

It really isn't that hard to understand, and I have said it multiple times in the past - in the playoffs, teams matter.

In his Cleveland days, Lebron has played on horrible teams, and the opposition has a simple game plan, and that is to crowd Lebron and make the other guys beat you (knowing that they can't). There are very few legit #1s who have better stats in the playoffs than the regular season. On the other hand, great secondary players, so called second bananas, often benefits from this effect. As the opposition crowds the main guy, the 2nd banana goes off.

McHale was the beneficiary in a few playoffs, we saw that with Danny Green in the finals, we saw that with Horry countless times, and we saw that with Kobe in 2000 to 2002 with Shaq in the middle, we saw that with Parker in 07 and Ginobili in 05.

Like I said all along, Lebron does have GOAT potential, but he is unlikely to achieve it. His resumes have too many black marks (collapse in 11, pedestrian playoff run this year until Game 6 and 7 of the finals, having to team up with two max level player to finally get a ring), but even at it stands right now, there is no doubt Lebron is a top 10 player in the history of the league.

It is a mental quality few players have which causes them to elevate their game when it matters. Lebron, as great of a player he is, simply lacks this. It is something you are born with, an instinct to win.

Lebron was phenomenal in Games 6 and 7, when it really counts.

But, his finals series on the whole was not nearly as dominant as it is being credit for. He WAS bailed out.

If Allen didn't hit that 3, we'd all be discussing how Lebron had choked epically twice in the last 3 years.

No, we'd be cutting Bosh down from a Florida palm tree.

Media would not have laid a hand on James. "We" would have, but, Media would've went after Bosh and beat him to a pulp. Hell, they won and still launched a warning shot over his nappy head.

Lebron
PER - 27.6/27.3
FG% - 49%/47.2%
TS% - 57.5%/56.7
PPG - 27.6/28.1

Kobe
PER - 23.4/22.4
FG% - 45.4%/44.8%
TS% - 55.5%/54.1%
PPG - 25.5/25.6

Jordan
PER - 27.9/28.6
FG% - 49.7%/48.7%
TS% - 56.9%/56.8%
PPG - 30.1/33.4

Hmm... interesting.

bron's stats go down in playoffs because he's too brilliant during the regular season. most superstars don't go out in full strength in the regular season and will tank some games preceding the playoffs, while the Lebron you see is always the best he can be. Defense turns tighter and tougher once the playoffs begin so it's nothing abnormal to see players' stats go down a bit imho

since y'all want this to be a kobe vs lebron thread.

all i know is this. this is how kobe is guarded by the best defensive team in modern history in the playoffs

http://youtu.be/nepmd2ygMK4

now this is how lebron was guarded, lebron is being left wide open and guarded one on one :lol

its no wonder wiggins wants to play kobe. he's gonna learn a lot from one of the best players with a high skill level and great fundamentals. the only thing he'll learn from lebron is how to bulldoze defenders and hope you get a foul and the right way to flop :lol

Lol. Using highlights to illustrate points.

Btw, the lakers lost in 08 and some bitter fan blamed illegal defense. :(

i would use a highlight if i want to. its far better than any of y'all stupid responses, well not you, you actually gave some solid takes but i disagree with them. ill break them down later.

Advanced stats would be a nice start. I don't mean PER which is really an amalgamated number of regular stats given random weightings. But things like win shares and offensive defensive ratings.
