Well what do we have here. And guess what, same verdict, not guilty. Hmmmm.....wonder why this got no media attention. A justified shoot is a justified shoot, regardless of race.

http://rochester.ynn.com/content/top_stories/490926/jury-finds-roderick-scott-not-guilty/

Not guilty: The verdict in the manslaughter trial of Roderick Scott. After more than 19 hours of deliberations over two days, a jury acquitted the Greece man in the shooting death of Christopher Cervini, 17, last April.
"I just want to say thank you to the people who believed in me, who stood by me,” Scott said following the verdict. “I still have my regrets for the Cervini family; it's still an unfortunate situation for them. I am happy that at least this chapter is over."

As deliberations dragged on over two days and the jury asked for testimony to be read back, Scott admits he didn't know how it would all turn out.

"I was nervous of course,” he said. “You never know what direction this whole thing is going to turn, so I have no idea. But it worked out and I feel that justice (was) served today."

Cervini's family members say justice wasn't served. They say Christopher was murdered in cold blood, that he'd never been in trouble and Scott acted as judge, jury and executioner.

"The message is that we can all go out and get guns and feel anybody that we feel is threatening us and lie about the fact,” said Jim Cervini, Christopher’s father. “My son never threatened anybody. He was a gentle child, his nature was gentle, he was a good person and he was never, ever arrested for anything, and has never been in trouble. He was 16 years and four months old, and he was slaughtered."

Scott says he acted in self defense when he confronted Cervini and two others saying they were stealing from neighbors cars. He told them he had a gun and ordered them to freeze and wait for police.

Scott says he shot Cervini twice when the victim charged toward him yelling he was going to get Scott.

"How can this happen to a beautiful, sweet child like that?” asked Cervini’s aunt Carol Cervini. “All he wanted to do was go home. And then for them to say, he was saying, 'Please don't kill me. I'm just a kid,' and he just kept on shooting him."

Scott says the last seven months have been difficult for him and his family. If he could go back to the events in the early morning hours of April 4, there are things he says he would do differently.

"If it meant a person not losing their life, absolutely,” he said. “Would I still have tried to stop what was going on? That I would have done. But if I knew ahead of time that I could do something to help somebody from losing their life, I don't want anyone to lose their life."

Scott says the first thing he was going to do was go home and get a good night sleep. When asked if he'll continue living in his current home, which is just one street away from the Cervini's, he said “for the time being.”

Oh, Gee!!
07-18-2013, 03:22 PM
It's different insofar as Scott seems to show remorse and some class under the circumstances.

this. i see genuine remorse, unlike the coward who said he wouldn't change a thing and it was "gods will" sickening. happy for Mr. Scott and deepest sympathy for the Cervini family. this is a old story, though. why so late?

Sorry, we're not done with all the Zimmerman/Trayvon what ifs yet.

What if Zimmerman shot Trayvon because Trayvon's mother wanted to get a retroactive abortion? Would Red Team want to give GZ the needle? Would Blue Team stand up for GZ for just carrying out a pro-choice decision?

Trayvon was pretty much just young and stupid. He hadn't had time to really go bad yet but it looked like he was trying to go down the path with the burglary, etc. BTW, have you read about the scandal at Trayvon's school district? To make their school crime statistics look better they turned the jewelry they took off Trayvon into the local police as "found" jewelry, not taken off a student. After all the publicity about the jewelry the local PD matched the jewelry to a burglary two blocks from Trayvons high school from the exact same time period. Could have solved the crime right then if the school district hadn''t been fudging their numbers and not cooperating with local PD. Turns out it was ordered from up top at the school district and they have already fired a bunch of them...it's a big scandal.

"Unlike Florida, New York does not have a "stand your ground" law. New York law allows a person to use deadly force to defend his residence from home invasion only as a last resort. It does not allow the use of deadly force to prevent a property crime, and requires retreat if possible. Thus, while Zimmerman was not arrested under Florida law, Scott was tried for manslaughter.

New York law does allow a person to use deadly force anywhere, including off his own property, if he feels that his life is in imminent danger and retreat is not possible. Despite the fact that he left his own property, confronted, and shot dead an unarmed white person thought to be committing a petty property crime, Scott was acquitted by a majority-white jury after claiming that the Cervini charged at him, putting him in imminent fear of his life."

Charles Barkley gets it...

CHARLES BARKLEY: Well, I agreed with the verdict. I feel sorry that young kid got killed. But they didn't have enough evidence to charge him. Something clearly went wrong that night. Clearly something went wrong. I feel bad for anybody who loses a kid, but if you looked at the case and you don't make it -- there was some racial profiling, no question about it. But something happened that changed the dynamic of that night, and I know -- that's probably not a popular opinion among most people but just looking at the evidence I agreed with the verdict.

I just feel bad because I don't like when race gets out in the media because I don't think the media has a pure heart, as I call it. There are very few people have a pure heart when it comes to race. Racism is wrong in any, shape, form -- a lot of black people are racist too. I think sometimes when people talk about racism, they say only white people are racist. There are a lot of black people who are racist. I don't like when it gets out there in the media because I don't think the media has clean hands.

MARIA BARTIROMO, CNBC: I'm glad you made that point.

BARKLEY: Obviously I feel sorry that young kid got killed but just judging by the evidence, I don't think that guy should have went to jail the rest of his life. Something happened bad that night, obviously.

BARTIROMO: I like what the juror said, they both should have walked away. And if there is a shadow of a doubt, there is a shadow of a doubt.

BARKLEY: And let me tell you, Mr. Zimmerman was wrong to pursue -- he was racial profiling. I think Trayvon Martin, God rest his soul, I think he did flip the switch and started beating the hell out of Mr. Zimmerman. But it was just a bad situation. And like I said, the main thing I feel bad for, it gives every black and white person who is racist a platform to vent their ignorance.

That's the thing that bothers me the most because I watched this trial closely and I watch all these people are television talking about it. A lot of people have a hidden agenda. You know, they want their racist views, whether they are white or black --

BARTIROMO: The bias comes out.

BARKLEY: The bias, it definitely comes out. It was a bad situation, we all lost. And I feel bad for his parents. You don't ever want to see anybody lose a kid. (CNBC Closing Bell, July 18, 2013)

But the bottom line still is: Zimmerman was the aggressor. Zimmerman initiated contact with Martin, despite being told not to by the 911 operator.

Martin was innocent, and wasn't doing anything wrong before or during the contact with Zimmerman.

When you realize you're being followed, you have good reason to fear for your safety. So, when Martin realized Zimmerman was following him, any actions he took from that point on were in self defense. The court ignored this fact. Why were Zimmerman's actions in self defense but not Martin's? After all, Martin had done NOTHING to aggravate the situation with Zimmerman, it was Zimmerman who started it all.

Zimmerman didn't fear for his life, because if he had he would have kept a safe distance and allowed the police to handle the situation. Martin was the one who reacted to a perceived danger first, which the jury should have realized made his actions in self defense.

Why were Zimmerman's actions in self defense but not Martin's?

Defense against what? Being asked questions?

there were at least 3 white vigilante shootings since tray died.

Links please. I didn't here of them and am wondering why they weren't more publicized.

i posted a link yesterday that stated every 28 hours a black male is shot by police or vigilantes. i don't know why the specific cases weren't publicized

Where are the 3 white vigilante shootings since Trayvon that you are referring to?

its gonna take a while for me to search the entire us for those articles so you have to bear with me. if you are really concerned, feel free to help me do a search.

so you make a claim that 3 vigilante murders have occurred with black victims since Martin's death, have absolutely nothing to back that up, and then ask somebody else to do the research for you? yeah, no.

But the bottom line still is: Zimmerman was the aggressor. Zimmerman initiated contact with Martin

:lol people making accusations with NOTHING to back it up per par

i stand by my claim and even made a thread on one child being killed by a vigilante a few weeks ago. if ya'll cared and were sincerely interested on why these crimes were happening, i'd be more than happy to post the links. but all i've seen in these threads since the ruling is jubilation, intellectual dishonesty and guilt from the pro zimmerman crowd.

i got the information and i'm done arguing about some overweight, kid killing, coward, pedo. if ya'll want to talk solutions, holla at me.
