@WojYahooNBA (https://twitter.com/WojYahooNBA): Possible suitors for Miller include Spurs, Thunder, Rockets and Warriors.

My bet is that he'd choose the Warriors or Rockets over SA.

Hoops Czar

Woj is guessing. He has no idea if the Spurs are interested. Seeing how there's possibly more than one suitor, that automatically eliminates the Spurs.

I don't want that bum on the spurs...I don't think he's nearly the player, at this pt, w/o LeBron or Wade creating wide open looks for him. He cant create his own shot. I thought the Spurs had enough spot up, 3 pt shooters?

No thanks - he can barely move. Spurs need athleticism on the perimeter - not an old, unathletic, one-dimensional player.

Spurs are always listed as possible suitors. Idk if its b/c the spurs have such an info-hungry fanbase that writers think it'll get more hits, or that other fans find it interesting when the spurs are competing for a player with their own team.

I'd be disappointed to see the Spurs bring him in. In his prime, he was a great player, but now he's about as done as McGrady. They have enough limited shooters as it is. They shouldn't pick up another veteran free agent. Just re-sign Neal or give a three-year deal to a rookie.

I know I'm in the minority and will surely get chastised, but at this point I'd rather have Bonner. I think most forget how horribly Miller was playing in the Playoffs before the closing games of the Finals.

FWIW, I'm hoping Bonner is packaged in a trade for a quality backup 3 sometime between now and the deadline, but I'd rather roll with the Red Rocket than bring in an injured one-dimensional player. With the whole AK47 discussions, I had my fingers crossed that he would either come to SA - or at least somewhere other than one of our main competitors. I have no worries at all about him joining OKC, Golden State, Houston, etc.

Very one dimensional, though not on Steve Novak's level. Imagine Novak though playing in Miami with his old Marquette teammate...

Shooters with some playmaking ability are much more valuable to us than one-dimensional shooters, given how stagnant the offense becomes when Parker's on the bench and bad Manu shows up. To be honest, I'd rather have Neal than Miller at this point in Miller's career and even Bonner at the same age than Miller is less beat up ... plus has a salary that helps in trades if needed (and has a higher aggregate +/- than Melo over the past several seasons, which is why I find it laughable when Knicks fans fawn over him thinking he's getting them anywhere past the second round).

Spurs would be damn lucky to get him and park his ass at the end of the bench for when we need him in the playoffs. But y'all go ahead and keep rubbing it out for the likes of Bonner and the anti-clutch work of Neal and DGreen late in the Finals...

He's an amnesty waiver cleared player, so his likely salary would be vet minimum. That's what is usable in trades. His old salary is not on anyone's cap, and payable by Miami.

Sign Mike Miller, and cut the useless, waste of roster space called Bonner.

Miller hit threes, back to back, missing a shoe, IN THE FINALS...

And got one of two offensive rebounds that BEAT the Spurs..

Bonner couldn't hit a three in the playoffs or finals if the Spurs paid him to do it (which in fact they are, idiots);

Even if Miller only plays in the playoffs...

Someone who can score 20+ points in the regular season, and shoot 5/5 from the three point line in an NBA finals game isn't exactly as "done as Mcgrady".

Sadly it's a double standard! Whats funny is non Spurs homers or Manu homers you talk to think Manu is done, but his fans act like he is worth 7 a year and still in the game very much! Some need to take off the glasses and see reality. Miller is not DONE, can still shoot the ball like crazy from outside.

superbigtime
07-19-2013, 02:56 PM
True that. Unfortunately Manu IS done and anyone who doesn't believe that didn't watch last season and playoffs objectively. True he can have a pearl of a game sometimes, but it is fools gold. Miller has some health issues but he is still effective.

Vic Petro
07-19-2013, 03:43 PM
Comparing Manu to Miller is silly. I'm not defending the contract, but whether we like it or not, loyalty counts with this franchise. This is a business and there's way more ticket buyers who want to see Ginobili on the team (STers notwithstanding) than not. Of course he's paid more than his production warrants but he was going to finish his career with the Spurs. I don't think there's any precedent for a former all star re-signing at a 75% pay cut. Though I don't agree, I think the organization would rather get to the Finals and lose with Ginobili than win the Finals without him.

As for Miller, I did watch him hit several wide open 3's in the Finals. However the Spurs didn't lose that series because guys were missing wide open 3's. They lost it because Pop benched Duncan, no one could hit 2 back to back free throws down the stretch, and no one besides Tim and Kawhi could reliably create their own shot or create an opportunity for others. I don't see how Miller helps solve that problem, and putting him on the team puts one more godawful defender on the floor for stretches of time.

Miller's contemplated retirement for three years now.

Vash StampedE

Miller still has 2-3 playing years left on him, IMO. Perhaps 4 if he undergoes a successful back surgery and a thorough rehab. I know his current age may have most people categorize him as "old and done" but it's not like he has to do a heavy lifting ala starplayer for his team. He, obviously, can still fill that shooter/space-creator role and more importantly, a proven playoff performer. That's why teams, including the Spurs, show interest in him. I bet Miami would prefer to have him for another championship run if not for their team hitting the punitive luxury tax.

But just like what others here are pointing out, bringing Miller in doesn't seem like the answer to what the Spurs currently needs, which are backup SF & big and a playmaker. But definitely, Miller still has few years left on him.

It shouldn't be. R.C. constructs his bench with inexperienced youth and overseas NBA fodder. He doesn't go after ring chasers.
