Pennsylvania GOP chairman: Voter ID law helped ‘cut Obama’ during 2012 election

The head of the Republican Party of Pennsylvania said last week that the state’s controversial voter ID law helped suppress Obama voters.

Chairman Rob Gleason told PCN in an interview (http://pcntv.com/blog/2013/07/10/july-11-on-the-issues-with-robert-gleason/) that the voter ID law had an impact on the 2012 elections.

“We probably had a better election,” he explained. “Think about this, we cut Obama by 5 percent, which was big. A lot of people lost sight of that. He won, he beat McCain by ten percent, he only beat Romney by five percent. I think that probably voter ID had helped a bit in that.”

North Carolina Republicans Push Extreme Voter Suppression Measures

The bill now does the following:

*shortens early voting by 1 week,

*eliminates same day registration and provisional voting if at wrong precinct,

*prevents counties from offering voting on last Saturday before the election beyond 1 pm,

*prevents counties from extending poll hours by one hour on election day in extraordinary circumstances (like lengthy lines),

*eliminates state supported voter registration drives and preregistration for 16/17 year olds,

*repeals voter owned judicial elections and straight party voting,

*increases number of people who can challenge voters inside the precinct, and

*purges voter rolls more often.

Meanwhile, it floods the democratic process with more money. The bill makes it easier for outside groups to spend on electioneering and reduces disclosure of the sources. It also raises the contribution limits to $5k per person per election from $4k and indexes to amount to rise with inflation.

1. He is stating that any shift from Dem to Rep from McCain to Romney was all due to people having to show id.

2. You really think there are that many people out there without ID?

:lmao that's cute!

his point is that he's admitting PA Repug voter suppression tactics are not meant to stop voter fraud, but to suppress voting, figuring Repugs will suppress more Dem votes than Repug votes.

Ecxept for the part where he said:

An awful bill. My girlfriend has been to a few of the Moral Monday protests mentioned in the article. Now that I live in NC, i'll vote against any of this type of bullshit (including those who support the bill), like I did while I lived in Mn (where a similar voter ID referendum was voted down)
