View Full Version : "Boy...I feel like Kawhi Leonard"

You can't compare Kawhi to Manu and Tony....they're sports icons in their countries. Not even 1/4 of the country knows who Kawhi is.
It's way less than 1/4th. If even 1/10th of the country knew who Leonard was, I'd be surprised.
More people are getting to know him...Leonard was TT# with the Wale's line "I play with foreigns and I feel just like Kawhi Leonard” (2:38) :D

I caught an episode of First Take where he basically laughed at the thought of the Spurs being contenders. I think it was the 2011-2012 season. The guy sounded like an asshole. You could tell he hadnt watched most of the teams in the NBA. Didn't know who he was until I saw the show.

Rappers are predominately black, you immediately assumed all rappers are idiots. Thats pretty ignorant, you clearly hasn't listened to very much rap to make that assumption. If you hear it on the radio its probably not the rap you need to listen to. I don't thing your is racist, that's obviously a little much but its weird standard. Most Pop singers have hit teams write their music but I doubt you view them as stupid.
Rappers like Tupac and Kanye West went to performing arts schools despite growing up in the inner cities. 2 Chainz in college educated. NaS dropped out of highschool and found higher learning by reading dozens of books that expanded his knowledge and vocabulary. At 21 he released which is widely viewed as the greatest hip hop album ever by describing in vivid detail the streets he came from. Rap is really no different from rock or soul, or even blues. The youth identifies with it and its breaking down barriers. White teenagers are listening and buying rap en masses and becoming more familiar with a [black] culture that their parents never really understood.

"Artists" in any genre of music are probably 75% hypocrites and/or con-artists. It's unfair to single out Rap/Hip-Hop because you don't like the music or have a problem with their lyrics.
It's like, I love Bob Dylan's music, but lyrically he's full of shit. Is it poetry? No. And if its folk, music for the masses, then was he so cryptic and nonsensical.

Obviously you don't know how to read because if you had then you would know that I defended the guy who was called a racist, and not one of the ones calling him a racist, even though that poster and I disagreed on everything else. What I don't like is "ignorance" because ignorance is what fuels racism, or weren't you aware of that fact?
And actually, if you had read the posts, I asked him WHY they were calling him a racist since nothing he wrote could infer such a thing unless it was deleted and I never read it. Get your facts straight next time, Dude.

What truth bombs are you throwing that are not clearly out and out gross exaggerations of the facts on your part?
I haven't been exaggerating when I said clearly that the whole team is at fault, not just Manu and Pop, and by extension I suppose you could also include the FO, but at least I am not trying to convince everyone of a gross exaggeration. There is a difference and a major one, I am being realistic and rational here, and you sir, are most definitely not. And I am not trying to make my points by cramming your same redundant opinion down peoples throats.
I will always defend those who are wrongly called a racist if there be no reason for the accusation. And so far no one coulld show me one in your case. But I will also defend against gross exaggerations. Both stem from ignorance.

I'm surprised you'd put him in the same category as Lil' Wayne. He is smart & clever, utilizing exotic beats and samples rapping over them as if if were old school freestyles. He actually reminds me of NaS. He aligns himself with lesser rappers but his head and shoulders above them.
"The Mixtape about Nothing" and "More About Nothing" are great tapes. I suggest who take a listen. It may change your mind about him.

Not sure you know the meaning of oximoron, but it's really not important. Intelligent rappers = oximoron, like military intelligence. It is no knock against the military or rappers in general because I have great appreciation for the military, just hardly any for rap. It is a joke however you want to look at it though, and considering the comment as being racist sounds to me like you are really reaching in order to defend a particular genre of music which IMHO shouldn't even be considered music at all. Being a musician all my life I can be a little offended that rap would be considered in the same breath. Love soul, pop, jazz, blues, rock etc. I just don't see how rap can be used in the same sentence. Just my opinion, but certainly nothing racist.
Seems to me you should be looking to yourself for the ignorance and racism you so freely throw at others just because I find a particular genre to be ludicrous.

Pop can get away with sexual innuendo as long as they're subtle. Rap can't because they are upfront that makes no sense to me.

You haven't listened t many of the great hip hop artists to get a better sense of the genre. NaS "Illmatic" is considered the greatest hip hop album it would be a great place to start. Hip-hop is essentially the same as Blues in the 30's and 40's, Rock N' Roll in the 50's and 60's Punk in the 70's and Grunge in the 90's. Its the new thing (fairly new) that gets criticized harshly but is prevalent amongst younger people. I dislike Soccer, but its a sport.
Listening to artists like T-Pain, Lil Wayne, and Soulja boy on the radio can turn anyone off the it. I personally only listen to a handful of artists now from rap. It forced me to expand past rap. I got into Rock (Hendrix, Nirvana, White Stripes) and Blues (Son House, Robert Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt) and even Pop.

Me Against the World is a personal fav. His personality and feeling change from record to record. On that he had to go through a trial (in which he proclamed innocence) and being nearly fatally shot by his own people. It was his last thoroughly great LP ( his last two had moments)
Artists like Rakim, NaS, Wu-Tang Clan, ATCQ, Ice Cube and The Notorious B.I.G. paved the way for all the success rappers have to day in terms of record sales and mainstream acceptance.

yeah I find this to be true. Proclaimed innocence, but really I think he was innocent honestly. Tupac, as you know, who're his heart on his sleeve and just couldn't hold things he wanted to say back, and if you look at any interviews he had during the sodomy trial he would just straight up no hesitation emphatically tell you he he didn't do that and wouldnt hesitate to answer journalist questions in or whatever but whatever, I'm going ona big tupac innocence rant now, when the dudes gone. but yeah that album was the pinnacle of his work probably. And his death row records have some good singles, but arent as complete as a whole and have their share of fillers.
Yeah, NWA and Ice T kinda blew everything up in 89, 90. Gangster rap set the world on fire and then after G-Funk, set the standard for west coast rap for the better part of the 90s.
I gotta throw out Bone Thugs out there too. Their first 3 albums were classic and they were originators in their own right. I'd never heard any group that could rap like that and combine it with singing on top of their strong lyricism and beats.
