A perfect example of what's happening to police forces around the country due to the revenue starved environment many locations find themselves in. It's too bad there aren't more cops like this guy. (Wait, there would be, if so many like-minded officers weren't forced out by the overwhelming majority of scum that make up today's law enforcement agencies.)

I got a bullshit speeding ticket from a bexar county sheriff a few weeks ago. Son of a bitch was running a speed trap inside the freaking city on Callaghan Road just east of I10...coming from I10 there is a steep downhill grade to the bottom where there is a church parking lot and then it's back up a steep hill when you pass. Speed limit is freaking 35 (should be at least 45 as it's pretty much a wide open stretch) and you have to ride your brake all the way down the hill to keep below 35...I saw him and didn't think a thing about it until he whipped out behind me and hit the lights...Bastard wrote me up for 39 in a 35...just total bullshit. It wasn't a safety issue it was a revenue issue. $115 ticket and I have to take freaking defensive driving...

I may not be reading your post right, but you're basically saying that we're fucked unless some kind of revolution occurs? I agree that tickets won't be the catalyst, but it's a symptom of a much larger problem that can be solved by holding our elected representatives accountable, imo

Law enforcement agencies are at the bottom of the totem pole. If state and local governments were better at managing budgets there wouldn't be as much pressure on them to fund those failures. That's why we see the ever-growing costs of tickets and fines, and the corrupt, brute-filled agencies which enforce them

Another thing you can do is vote out corrupt Sheriff's. These guys become as entrenched (and powerful) as anybody else within a county system, especially in the south. One of the places I grew up, in Alabama, had the same sheriff for 25+ years despite a corresponding increase in both the size of the police force and the crime rate. He personally had 3 marked vehicles he liked to drive around, a Jaguar (seized in a drug raid), a Camaro, and a Suburban. He had no law enforcement background and was repeatedly voted in because his family went wayyyy-back in the area. Nobody gave a damn about results, they just wanted the same fat, cherubic, pseudo nice guy around to ensure the good ole' boy network stayed in place. The same shit happens in bigger towns and cities, of course, it's just that those good ole' boys are wrapped in Armani suits and rolex watches.

The problem in this country is that we continue to vote for the same types of people, over and over and over again. Somebody much smarter than me once said that we deserve the government we elect. Excuse the fuck outta me, but I happen to believe that change can occur if we, as a country, vote more responsibly, and actually involve ourselves in the process. America grows more apathetic by the day, blinded by celebrity and ignorance. While I won't be arming myself and going full Rambo over tickets, I will vote against people who think that they can railroad their bullshit policies, and in so doing, cover up their complete failure as stewards of this country.

Maybe I'm still too idealistic, but I think change (real change, not fake ObamaChange) can occur. There's a precedent for this. The Progressive era of the late 19th/early 20th century, as well as the socialist and populist movements forced new planks into the platforms of the established parties. I'm not so naive to think that there will be a viable, powerful, 3rd party in this country, but if they can start getting double digit percentages, they'll have to be listened to and perhaps some of those ideas will soak into those who already hold power

I'm not proposing a revolution, I'm saying people do not have to accept the options that are being served to them which are the equivalent of jail food.

I'm not as optimistic as you are. As long as political candidates need money, nothing will really change. I can't change anything by means of vote when all my options are garbage. And someone that does gain traction can't substantiate themselves because they don't have a machine behind them. People that have a machine behind them are lying somewhere, and they never live up to what they propose. There are a lot of nice little laws that have this two party system sewn up nicely. And there are a lot of people getting fucked that think nothing is wrong because of how they perceive things to be, and are afraid of what an alternative is. Most people want to be left alone.

There are people on both sides of this artificially created dichotomy getting fucked who believe all their problems are the result of people on the other side, when that's simply not true. It's like saying, we're going to make some nice changes in this household when the mother and father are at odds. And, in reality, they both have lovers on the side that are creating the rifts in their relationship and they're looking for other people to solve their issues.
