View Full Version : No Spurs/Heat on Christmas Day

The Miami Heat will be getting their 2013 NBA championship rings in front of the Chicago Bulls. Their fans then will get to enjoy their Christmas dinner watching the Heat from afar, against the Los Angeles Lakers.

At least that's the preliminary word based on the nearly completed draft of the 2013-14 NBA schedule sent this week to teams and league broadcast partners, the Sun Sentinel has learned.

Who's really surprised about this.... The league would take a crappy LA team on Christmas any day of the week vs. the Spurs as the marquis game. Who knows, maybe we'll play the late game in Golden State since that was an exciting series.

Fuck Stern/Silver! We were the Finals runner-ups. We supposed to get that Christmas rematch-up against the Heat. Fuck the ratings!!!!

Heat/Lakers? You'd get a better game out of of the Pelicans than the Lakers. Who the fuck wants to see a shitty team that will most likely be below .500 play the best team in basketball on Christmas?

UZER

Also, the league will never get its Kobe v Lebron dream finals match up, so they have to manufacture these hyped games.

On one hand I understand the leagues mindset knowing how Pop has sat starters for any number of reasons. Vindictive or cautionary, we can trace the reasoning.

Plus it wouldn't be Christmas without heat lakers...going on 10 straight years I'd wager.

Eh, Spurs get to be with there family during the holidays and that's more important.. This should be great though to see the Lakers fall apart.

Just because Spurs aren't playing the Heat doesn't mean they will be getting Xmas off.

They just as likely could be playing the Rockets or Warriors or something.

Wow. What bullshit. The main Christmas Day game is supposed to match up the two previous Finals participants. This is a complete cop out by the NBA. They went for the money/ratings grab all the way. This makes me sick. Seriously.

We should be more angry at these continued slights. Most of you just want to let it go and say we don't care, etc. Well I'm sick of doing that. I wish there was a way we Spurs fans could get back at the NBA for continuing to slight us like this. Like being fucking fined for resting our players after having to play like 4 games in 5 nights last year. This is so ridiculous.

That said...our players probably would prefer to be with their families on Christmas anyways...but as a fan I'm let down still. Especially if we have to play someone else on that day. That would be outrageous.

watching it against the heat would be more worthwhile. watching the lakers get anally raped by the heat would be lame. Still i hope we play on Christmas day, cause i really want a Christmas day spurs jersey

Can we just skip right to the playoffs? There's something I was robbed of last June. :lol

Doesn't always happen like that. I remember the Spurs got a road game in LA on Christmas Day 1999 as defending champs. Snitch threw down a nasty dunk on Jaren Jackson.

A Spurs-Rockets Christmas Day matchup would be awesome. Especially if it's in Houston so the fans can get butthurt when Pop starts hacking Howard.

Higher Ratings>Better Basketball game.

A Spurs-Houston/GS would do it for me if a matchup versus the Heat can't happen. Yeah, I would love to see the Spurs give Houston and Howard some Christmas freebies from the free throw line.

Not thrilled, but we will get to play the Heat again (probably on NBA TV... heh). This is probably retaliation to Pop and Spoelstra likely sitting their A team against each other until the Finals yet again next year.

I dunno if we had Christmas Day 2007 against Cleveland. Probably not since that Finals was a coronation and ratings poison.

SAS/CLE that season gave us a SuperManu game though, so I'm happy.

It's cool if we don't have a Christmas game against the Heat. I mean, how funny would it be to watch LA on Christmas day not because they deserve it but simply because they're the Lakers? And to be utterly destroyed by Miami, mind you.

Don't the Lakers make a spectacle of losing on Christmas Day anyway?

They won in 2012 against NYK and 2008 against BOS, but in other years a Lakers Christmas Day game sucked for them. :lol

I suggest that the Pop and Manu apologists go re-watch the game and try to fight off their blind homerism of blaming the loss on the whole team when Pop and Manu were clearly the ones that fucked up the most.

Combining this with Frank Isola's tweets from 7/30, Christmas looks to be:

OKC/NYK
BRK/CHI
MIA/LAL
LAC/GST

with one more game -- a Rockets' road game -- to be revealed.

If the Rockets have a road game on Christmas and if it happens to be at San Antonio, that will be the first time the Spurs have ever played a home game on Christmas day. All of the other 7 Spurs Christmas Day games have been on the road -- and the bulk of those (5) have been in Phoenix or Los Angeles.

Spurs All-Time Christmas Day games:

1978 at NOJ (Win)
1980 at PNX (Loss)
1992 at LAC (Win)
1995 at PNX (Win)
1999 at LAL (Loss)
2005 at DET (Loss)
2008 at PNX (Win)
