I'd say we're still 50 years away from it.

Hopefully not in my lifetime. As obnoxious as Red Sox fans were when they won it all, Cubs fans would be 100x worse.

Granted, I don't live in Cleveland, so I'm not near Chicago, but I know over a dozen people from Chicago and another half-dozen or so Cubs fans, and them as a collective whole are quite fun, and not anywhere near the gun-to-my-head annoyance as the one Red Sox fan I know, nor the dozens I've met.
Sox fans are mix of Napoleon complex with Little Sister complex with Persecution complex.
They are goddamn awful like only Cowboys/Lakers fans in pro sports.
I honestly don't think Cubs fans would know what to do if they won. Elation followed by befuddlement over no longer being lovable losers.
Worst guest ballpark experience I've had was at Fenway. Best was Wrigley. I rooted for the home team in both, saw both win, but felt like a pledge in a frat house hazing at Fenway.
Most of the "fans" I came in contact with knew absolutely nothing of their own history, but could recite cliche/rehearsed Red Sox fan responses to any affront to their fandom bravado.
I've been told to go fuck myself in-person twice in my sports fan life. Once at Fenway, once at Chase Field by a visiting Red Sox douchenozzle.
