Most Texas rap was getting old at that time with the same played out non sense. Talking about the same shit over and over.. Sip lean, swang a lac, sip lean, eat at Pappadeaux, sip lean, pop trunk etc. It was cool in high school though. That's why Chamillionaire is dope. His music evolved quite a bit and he switched up his concepts. And I'm sorry.. Unless you're a teenager I don't understand how you can listen to the current mainstream stuff. It's horrible.

gotta agree with the white boy from san antone, you must have went to roosevelt or madison. chamillionaire's fan base was always white boys, mexicans and corny blacks. i never was a fan of him but he's cool.

the texas scene had a lot of variety. what you're describing is the swishahouse freestyles, but the actual albums had some classic songs. texas rap fell off when everybody turned their back on lil flip during the beef with t.i. flip put the entire city on his back and gave the other artists a platform to shine and they dropped the ball with that dumb beef, flip included. pimp c tried to spit game to the youngin's but it was too late.

Taft actually.. NW. And you have to bring up race in every single discussion don't you? You're calling a lot of black people corny as well as Cham. He's probably the strongest lyricist from Houston and would've destroyed TI if he was on Flips situation. But I agree.. Beef in Hiphop was getting extremely corny especially when the artists suck.

Yup you're right.. Classic album, especially 20 years ago.. I'm not denying that. I'm just saying lyricism has evolved and I don't care how great someone used to be.. If they haven't evolved with the game and can't hold their own anymore, they are no longer the greatest during this present time. Have you heard Rakims most recent music? It was barely relevant in the underground.

I listened to a bit of the Seventh Seal, but a reunion with Eric B. would def have me interested. I was 10 when Paid In Full came out, and couldn't get enough of it and still listen to it quite a bit. I will admit I am not really a fan of how the rap game evolved in the 2000s and on though. Most of the hip hop I listen to these days is DJ/turntable stuff.

It was to me too - Slick Rick, EPMD, lots of em. I had to put my headphones on just now to listen to few tracks off Great Adventures of Slick Rick cause my daughter is in the next room :cry But I understand it was a long time ago and there is heavy nostalgia involved.

- Gay-ass girly singing voice that sounds like nails on a chalkboard
- Faggy topics for his tracks, usually demonstrating how pussywhipped he is or desperately trying to act like he came from "the hood"
- Corny wordplay

well fellas, i disagree and agree on a few points. his singing i admit is mediocre at best but most rappers since around 2000 sing on their hooks(ja rule, 50cent, big krit, future, etc) thanks to autotune and other studio tricks, its saved the artist a lot of money and the money they used to spend on having a r&b singer on the hook can go to elsewhere.

sorry to break it to y'all but his target audience is women. he's a genius at writing catchy songs with memorable melodies and the radio eats every.single.song.up. lol. you can't deny his pen game, even stevie wonder applauded him for his song writing skills. when you have a success at something, you would be a fool to abandon what got you there.

to clippernation, as far as wordplay goes, he never said he was the best lyricist or had slick wordplay like jay-z, not every rapper has to be a lyricist, but to be successful in any genre of music, you must be able to craft timeless music and that is what drake does. the reason he gets so much hate is because he's everywhere. i don't know if y'all actually listen to his entire body of work or just the radio singles but he switches his flow up on every album, the only thing that stays the same is the singing and production.

i just appreciate good music period, i can seperate the artist from the art, ya dig?

ja rule was exposed for being a wanksta by 50cent, but ja rule still put out good music.

dr. dre was exposed for wearing glitter, a leotard and lip gloss, but he is still a great producer and has hit songs and gave us snoop dogg, eminem, 50cent, nate dogg, warren g, etc.

ice cube was exposed for having a weird name and going to a good school, but he put out good music.

I hate mainstream rap but I actually don't mind Drake. It's weird to have a guy from Toronto sound just like he's from Houston.

It's not about hating him. I don't hate him. Hes just obviously not fire or timeless. He's good for what he is I guess, which is not rap. It's bubble gum rap or pop rap, not rap.

We'll see how long he can milk the Hannah Montana crowd.

Ricky Martin was more successful at this point in his career. He sold millions of albums (your indicator of talent) and had every girl's panties dropping. It was only later we found out he had a Duncanesque secret.

album sells isn't the only indicator of talent but one of them. ricky martin also blew up during the era when record sells where at an all time high; throw in the fact that he was bi lingual and was able to get that global love. i would compare pitbull to ricky martin at this juncture.

they suck to YOU but majority of the world disagrees. people are buying his albums at a one of the weakest periods of record sells and musical legends gave him their co-sign.

tbh the majority of the world has no idea who Drake is.

Trill has terrible arguments lately. He's gone too far with the obvious trolling. He was better when he was 80/20. 80% real cool, 20% clowning around. He calls Drake timeless and thinks she-male porn guy is funny for simply randomly saying the word tiny with no context or punch line. Starting to paint a drake (bleak) picture of his personality.

Hopefully this is just a schtick.

stop it.

Trill, there is nothing wrong with liking pop rap. I've said it before, just because you like a song or recording artist doesn't mean you don't understand what it is, be it studio gangsta, catchy hooks, etc., and can't understand the true "artist/ lyricist" that are out there which I'm sure you do.

All these people on their high horse are the same people that avoided my thread about hating pop/mainstream music but like the movie equivalent of pop/mainstream. I can't stand drake but hes got some catchy songs, and I can separate the two. Some music is just a 3 minute escape like some movies are just a 2 hour escape.

They bash drake, but will laugh their ass off at bad grampa trailers. Talk about unoriginal mainstream shit that's been done to death, but hey, good for them. I'll probably check it out too and get a few laughs out of it. But I recognize what it is. I'm just trying to call out the hypocrisy between music and movies.

Not really into movies in general anymore, now that the industry's goal has changed from releasing good movies to pimping out plot-free, explosion-heavy, and sequel-ready franchises that can sell toys to Chinese kids....

For sure. It's definitely a sport. It's just hard to get a team together to play often. You pretty much have to be in a league it seems. Basketball/Soccer/Tennis are things people do all the time so it's easier to get a game.

Most people that didn't play soccer aren't fans. 1) They usually hate running that much & 2) they usually look goofy since it's not natural like other sports you grow up with (i.e. everyone can throw a football and catch it. Not everyone can dribble a soccer ball)

Chief Brody

It's not tackle football, Trill, but I applaud you for playing a sport because of the love of the game--not just an excuse to show off your fake-bake and neatly coiffed hair. Human beings were meant to use their hands, and any sport that eliminates the use of them is un-American.

First time I heard it was on the radio. I recognized 3-2 but I couldn't figure out whose song it actually was. Went to the local music store where I bought all my screw and described the song and they handed me the CD. Must have run that song over and over a hundred times.
