it all comes down to what type of guy oden is and what he is valuing/thinking about his future. is he valuing health or rings? knowledge or fame? his comeback or his career? if he has the mindset to value the latter of each of those choices... he'll come to san antonio.

Again I know people shouldn't expect a great player if at all but with luck I see this as a low risk good gamble for the future seasons for the spurs. Spurs might not ever find another Tim or drob in the draft for many years. If he's a bust... No big deal they can just move on as they have been before. If he become a good big well then that's just a bon

Lots of agents and players float rumors about interest from the Spurs in order to hype their desirability. Haven't seen many of them come here, though, have you?

If I'm not joking, don't try to fix it...I wasn't joking. You know I'm right anyways. It is going to be just our luck that he gets injured, but if he goes to the Heat he'll play without injury.

Who gives a shit For the vet min. And the 15th roster spot, it's worth the gamble. That's why it's called low risk, high reward.

If anyone can keep him healthy its the Spurs. Mentoring by Duncan = priceless. Bottom line we need another strong rim protector but not someone to play big minutes. He could ease his way back in, and in an absolute best case scenario emerge as Duncan's long term replacement.

I don't have my hopes up all all that he comes to SA though until it actually happens.

I feel bad for the Blazers with that whole situation. It's one thing to be a bust, but to have that much talent and be derailed by injuries just sucks.

Don't you remember? There was time when he he actually finished a game. It was masterful how he negotiated his body through 48 minutes and actually came out of it with just a few aches and pains. If I'm not mistaken, he was so pleased with himself that he snapped a picture of his dong for someone.

It doesn't matter what kind of guy Oden is, if he wants to win now, etc...it's the commitment by him to remain healthy and in shape. He failed miserably in Portland with that, and Portland finally had to cut it's losses and move forward. Personally, without some more surgeries down the road, he'll be lucky to be walking without assistance before he's 40.

If they are waiting to see what his price tag is then doesn't that rule out all those teams that can only offer the vet min which is pretty much an already set figure?

For sure it isn't the Spurs because one of our insiders would have told us by now!

bthewigwam
08-02-2013, 05:14 PM
Then that must mean it isn't for the vet min because that is pretty much set in stone, isn't it?
All Dallas, Miami, and the Spurs can offer is the vet min if I am not mistaken.
So does that mean N. O.?

Before I posted that, I had read it wrong, I thought it said 'waiting on what HIS price tag is' but re-reading it, I think he was jokingly saying 'MY' pricetag. So not sure that's the reasoning.

I understand the low risk, high reward scenario, but it shouldn't be our top priority. Back up SF is what we really need now. Kawhi is a star in the making, but he's still a human. He can still get injured in an 82 game league and more when playoffs come.

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/08/12/oden-says-after-last-surgery-doctor-told-him-to-quit-basketball/

Oden says after last surgery doctor told him to quit basketball

Greg Oden is back with the Miami Heat because he is ignoring his doctor’s advice.

After his latest knee surgery, his doctor advised him to give up basketball, Oden said as reported by Ira Winderman at the Sun-Sentinel.

“After that surgery in 2012, my last surgery, the doctor said, ‘Just be a regular person, go live life. Be a regular person. You would be perfectly fine walking out of this place and not have to worry about any rehab or anything,’ ” Oden related during a news conference and conference call at St. Vincent Sports Performance in Indianapolis, where he endured the most grueling portions of his rehab work. “And I did, and then two weeks later, I was stuck onNBA TV. That’s just what I watch every day. I turn on TV and I’m watching NBA TV. I just wanted to play basketball. That’s my love; that’s what I wanted to do.”

Oden has reportedly looked good in workouts, his body is lean and he is moving well again. But that is very different than playing in an NBA game. Part of the reason he chose Miami is the lack of pressure to return quickly — the Heat don’t need him to win a lot of regular season games. They have that LeBron James guy for that, and I hear he is pretty good.

Oden and the Heat are willing to be patient.

“I know it’s going to be a long process,” he said. “Just getting back on the court, when I step on the court, if I play five minutes, and I step off the court and I’m healthy, and I’m able to play the next game, that’s what I’m worried about. For me, that would be the biggest smile on my face, being able to play in games.”

What matters to Miami is how this gamble pays off in April and May, when they will need size to combat Chicago and Indiana in the playoffs. Count me among the many people around the league hoping Oden bounces back and can play this season, gaining some measure of redemption for a career lost when his body betrayed him.

If Oden is playing in those postseason game, he should send that doctor a pair of tickets to come watch him play.
