1 month to go! The unveiling will probably happen at IFA 2013. Will wait for the specs before making a decision to upgrade. If the margin is not that huge (nothing game-changing), I'll probably wait for the Galaxy Note IV.

Samsung's phablet/tablet approach has changed because of the Nexus 7.
Pre-Nexus 7, they were pushing their Galaxy Tab line as their premium tablet brand. Lately, you'll notice that they've given up on that and started selling the Galaxy Tabs as budget tablets. The 'premium tablet' label has been transferred over to the various Galaxy Note versions.

Samsung’s big Unpacked Episode 2 event is underway (http://techcrunch.com/2013/09/04/watch-samsung-galaxy-gear-note-event-livestream/), and as expected, the company has used the venue to announce the Galaxy Note 3 smartphone. The Note is the original phablet, and the new version continues the tradition of big screen gadgets best-suited for big-handed people.
The new Galaxy Note 3 features a design with extremely slimmer bezels and sharper angles on its rounded edges, marking a slight departure from Galaxy device design language thus far. It’s thinner than its predecessor and lighter (168g), despite offering a larger screen at 5.7-inches. It also offers more battery life than the Galaxy Note 2, and there’s a new and improved S Pen, too. Plus it supports faster, and more “seamless LTE” with multi-band support.

The camera has 4K video recording capabilities with a new CRI LED flash that should improve low-light photography. Samsung claims nearly four more hours of battery life when playing back video, and performance in general during normal use should also extend battery by up to 40 percent over the previous generation.
Samsung was emphasizing craftsmanship with the Galaxy Note, which features a stitched leather rear cover (available in black, white and pink). It also has a metallic rim running around the edge, and there’s a flip wallet accessory available in 10 different colors that also features a larger S View window cover for checking messages, making calls and accessing more info at a glance without having to activate the whole display.

The new S Pen is designed to work with the larger screen. Samsung called it the “key” to unlocking Note features and power. This works via a number of new interface controls. There’s a dot on-screen that appears when you can activate “Air Command,” which is a tool wheel that provides quick access to memo, scrapbooking, screenwriting, and a finder search function. There’s also something Samsung calls “circle,” which uses a circle drawing gesture to capture content you want to save to your scrapbook, as called up via Air Command. Box is a way to multitask, that lets you do two things at once via essentially a picture-in-picture interface.

Samsung’s Knox mobile security feature, which is designed to help increase enterprise and consumer security via partitioned software for consumer and business use for BYOD device users. The Note 3 will ship September 25 in 149 countries around the world.
Samsung’s smartphone fortunes are the subject of major scrutiny at the moment, since the company is perceived as possibly having hit a ceiling in terms of growing its overall share of the market. The company is hosting a meeting with investors and analysts to discuss its long-term plans in the face of these fears (http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/09/04/us-samsung-meeting-idUSBRE9830BM20130904?feedType=RSS&feedName=technologyNews), and the Note line drives quite a few sales, though not as many as the flagship Galaxy S4. Estimates for break-out sales of the Note 2 on its own are hard to place, but Samsung has in the past said it anticipated the device would pass 20 million units shipped.
Galaxy Note 3 specs:
151.2mmx79.2mmx8.3mm
5.7-inch SuperAMOLED 1080p display with 368 ppi pixel density
2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, or 1.9GHz Samsung Exynos Octacore depending on market
Android 4.3
13 megapixel rear camera, 2 megapixel front camera
3GB RAM
32 or 64GB storage
MicroSDXC card storage expansion
Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi 802.11ac, LTE Category 4
3,200 mAh battery
LED/IR combo
No information on Galaxy Note 3 availability just yet beyond the September 25 date, and the official Samsung press materials around the launch says only that it’ll make it out to all major U.S. carriers “later this year.”

sg4mini is around 570-600rrp, while the sg4 is 100 bucks dearer for a bigger screen and specs....

Yeah Its really nice
Dont get me wrong HTC makes quality phones, but they like to buttfuck their consumers.
- lol Power button on top
- lol no OS updates
- lol no SD card (not a problem for me really, I dont use up a lot of space, but to other people )
- lol no replaceable battery (again not a problem for me, especially on a custom ROM but for power users...)
- lol removing the menu button upon releasing the One Series phones ... really ?
- No Kill-All button in mustitasking on Sense :lmao
Amazing camera, sound and speakers though (boomsound on HTC One is just amazing)
But yeah I really like the latest Samsung phones; I may not even root it (bye bye manhood :cry)

I got to play around with a Note III the other day (I love having tech blogger friends with demo units!).
I'm kinda surprised they went back to the old design, as it reminds me more of the first Note rather than the Note II. I guess lawsuits aren't a concern anymore. The plastic fake leather back casing will be an acquired taste for most people, I think. I'm guessing Samsung will be releasing back casings with front covers in a similar texture as accessories.
Touchwiz on Jelly Bean is as polished as on the S IV, with the usual S Pen stuff. Still a little too cartoonish for my tastes, though.
Overall, it's definitely worth picking up for people who just want that type of form factor.

I got to use a friend's Galaxy Note III and it looks and feels awesome. But I still love my Note II and I'm still willing to wait for the Note IV.
I have a problem with the Note III though. Why did they zone-restrict the Note III? This product appeals a lot to business people (who, btw, travel a lot) and these zone restrictions are gonna suck for business users.

did u guys read about how the new SS products will be regional blocked to keep prices up in those regions the products are sold to stop people from importing due to price differences between import and local stock... :(
so whats the point of having a new phone and going overseas if u cant use it :(

More and more, the ideal situation for overseas trips seems to be to just get a cheap dual-SIM phone.
Keep your original SIM in for call roaming, grab a local prepaid SIM for data wherever you end up travelling.

I had an original note. Loved it. Went to upgrade to the Note 3 and just wasn't impressed. I went with the Galaxy Mega 6.3. This thing is awesome. It's definitely mid-range specs. ...1.7 dual core Snapdragon 400 with 1.5 gb of ram but it absolutely smokes my old note. The 6.3" screen is unreal.
I went back a few days later and spent another 30 minutes with the Note 3 but left with a nice flip case for my Mega.:lol

Got a Nexus 7 and I didn't like it as much as I thought I would considering the hype it got from the press... Already have issues with the shitty microusb port... The fuck, my S3 also got problems but way later.
Finally ordered a note 3, this time around I'm going with the charging dock and the extra battery kit, no more worrying about both battery life and fucking up the micro usb port... It's the perfect size for me, basically same screen size as a kindle and amoled is so much better than lcd to read ebooks (black background and white font on the kindle app), also got frustrated with the lack of microsd slot on the N7...
I'm turning into a complete Samsung fanboy tbh...

I have the Exynos non LTE version and finally some good roms and kernels are coming out, Criskelo + whatever the kernel is called... So good... Seriously it's so much better than my S3 it's like it's from a different company... Best phone I've ever owned...
One thing that's a bit annoying is not being able to get the tablet version of an app like for instance beyondpod, the screen is easily big enough for it...

a. They can't make it
b. We're not gonna afford it
