As the title says.

Things to watch out for:

Who will the Spurs open against (and will it be at home/on the road)?

If the latter, who will the Spurs play in their home opener?

Which teams will they face on the Rodeo Road Trip?

Will they play on Christmas?

Games to watch out for:
chi (Marco Belinelli's return to the Windy City)
@MIA/vs MIA (Finals rematch)
all games vs HOU
all games vs DAL

Houston @ San Antonio would be a great home-opener.

Chicago @ Miami is the season opener of the NBA season. It will be interesting to see who plays in game 2 of the double header that night. Game 2 should be a west coast game so somebody travelling to GS or LAC is probably likely. SA @ GS would be interesting.

Speaking of the Hawks, thanks for reminding me. Those games are a must watch because of the mentor vs protege angle in Pop vs Bud.

SA @ GS would be interesting.

We'll see, but that does seem an interesting possibility for the 2nd game. More likely, it's the Thunder or Rockets against someone (and as DesignatedT suggests, Clippers seem a viable host). I'm honestly surprised that we don't know more by now.

For whatever it's worth, the Spurs openers since David Robinson arrived in San Antonio:

2012: at New Orleans
2011: Memphis
2010: Indiana
2009: New Orleans
2008: Phoenix
2007: Portland
2006: at Dallas
2005: Denver
2004: Sacramento
2003: Phoenix
2002: at Lakers
2001: Clippers
2000: Indiana
1999: Philadelphia
1998/99: Sacramento
1997: at Denver
1996: at Minnesota
1995: Dallas
1994: Golden State
1993: Golden State
1992: at Sacramento
1991: Dallas
1990: Lakers

17 of the last 23 openers have been at home and the Spurs haven't opened consecutive seasons on the road since Tim Duncan was a rookie.

Likely that the Spurs get the Lakers at home very early in the season, too: Woj (http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--kobe-bryant--lakers-to-face-dwight-howard-on-nov--7-031240873.html) says the Lakers play on November 7 at Houston.

Spurs may or may not play on Christmas day, but they play at Dallas (http://mavsblog.dallasnews.com/2013/08/mavericks-open-2013-14-season-at-home-miami-heat-visits-in-february.html/) on December 26. Sefko's reporting also suggests that the Heat's visit to San Antonio is likely to be sometime around the All-Star break, since Miami plays at Dallas on Feb. 18 (the 20th would make sense, as it would be a TNT game).

I'm always most interested in the number of home games after the RRT. Last season was great with 24 games before the RRT and 17 after. The worst was 2009-10 with only 12 home games after the RRT and no homestand longer than 2 games.

I'll also be looking at the dates for the away games vs. the Knicks, Nets, and Sixers as I plan my Spurs road trip for 2013-14.

I remember seeing somewhere a few weeks ago that Lakers play the Spurs like the third game of the season or something like that.

This was also interesting.

@MySportsLegion: NBA schedule leak: Clippers will visit Steph Curry and the Warriors on Christmas Day.

From various tweets and reports Christmas looks to be:

OKC/NYK
BRK/CHI
MIA/LAL
LAC/GST

with one more game -- a Rockets' road game -- to be revealed. Given that the Spurs apparently play in Dallas on the 26th, it's possible that the Rockets are at the Spurs on Christmas Day. Last year Brooklyn, Denver, Houston, LA Lakers, Miami, and New York all played back-to-backs on the 25th/26th.

There's only 1 set of 4-in-5, but there's:

a 7 games in 10 nights stretch from November 5 through November 15 (@DEN, v. PNX, OFF, v.GST, OFF, @NY, @PHI, OFF, v.WAS, OFF, @UTH); and

a 11 games in 16 nights stretch from December 10 through December 26 (@TOR, @MIL, OFF, v.MIN, @UTH, OFF, @LAC, OFF, @PNX, @GST, OFF, v.OKC, OFF, v.TOR, OFF, v.HOU, @DAL)

Then again, there's a whole lot of good rest stretches in parts of this schedule. The Spurs get 2 full days off on 11 different occasions, get 3 full days off on 2 different occasions, and get 3+ days off on 3 different occasions (including the all-star break).

That April schedule is a bitch. GS, OKC, Memphis and Houston will be tough. The Lakers and Mavs could be in play for the 8th seed. If the Spurs don't build up a comfortable lead in the seeding, it's going to be tough to rest players down the stretch.

good point, this is what i was going to say. the handful of games in april look like a clusterfuck of good teams and could make for a crazy, down to the wire scramble of the seeding.

That RRT won't be as easy as ya'll make it sound. The Pelicans and Blazers always play the Spurs tough (and will be in playoff contention this year imo) and the Spurs lost to the Pistons on last year's trip too. I could see the Spurs only going 5-4 or, god forbid, 4-5.
