He'll be fine as long as he keeps giving considerable playing time to Rin imho. Just don't mess with the yellow ruler and your job in Houston will be as safe as the mayor's.

If Dwight kills him, his already fragile rep will be gone with the wind.

I dont think Dwight will get him fired

I think McHale is one of the main reasons he picked Houston, as McHale was a post up big man, so Dwight will get a lot of touches

As for the Rockets, I think they'll be fine. Unlike in LA where he was suppressed by Kobe's ego and D'Antoni's system, he'll return to his perennial MVP and DPOY candidate form with better teammates and coach in Houston. Their team's ceiling is WCF and floor is WSF. Anything below that is a bust.

McHale knows how to play the post. He and DH should get along fine. He's too well respected to be shat upon grossly like Mike Brown was, but they'll find a way to push him upstairs and bring in a black coach.

best wishes to them but McHale is a mediocre coach after all. He might be good at coaching big man but an NBA headcoach job takes more than that imho. He will be fine as long as the team play good, but if the team play bad, someone will have to claim the responsibility and the coach will unfortunately become that person.

SVG knows how to play Dwight in the post and he still got him fired.:lol

I'm giving this marriage a year. Any of Dwight's shortcomings will be placed on MCHale's wide shoulders.

Two years. Next season Howard will just be glad to be the hell away from the media circus that comes with being in LA. If the Rockets struggle the fans won't boo and throw jerseys in his face. They'll just stop showing up for the games. If they don't make the Finals in that second year I think people will start pointing fingers, Dwight first among them.

SVG was fired because he's an emotional trainwreck. SVG wasn't one of the greatest post players in the history of the game.

Playoffs for the next two years will keep him safe. Third year will have to produce a finals appearance.

Thats irrelevant. What's relevant is Stan knew how to utilize Dwight in a system. Now, hoping Dwight plays like MCHale is a trainwreck waiting to happen.

Yeah, I'm not buying the 'McHale was a big too, he knows what's up'... Howard's game has some limitations but he can put up numbers so that's not really the issue... it's the emo/attention whoring side of the equation that doesn't add up to me...

McHale doesn't hope Howard plays like him. DH has been in the league long enough for someone like Kevin to see his abilities. A good coach will know how to use that. Howard just wants to be the face of the franchise and he will be. He had a long relationship with SVG.

He didn't get Pringles fired. Anyone should be safe considering that.

Unless Howard can knock down some consistent free throws, he'll never be the one winning games in the 4th quarter. It's own up or clam up time for Dwight. He needs to be in the gym this morning shooting 500, just like every other day.

Tbh don't you think that McHale's knowledge of the post and attempted mentoring will rub D12 the wrong way in the sense that Dwight is post-challenged and appears unwilling to learn?

I don't think McHale tries to teach Howard post moves. They have Hakeem for that. I think Howard will respect McHale because of McHale's accomplishments as a player. Where else has he faced a coach who was as accomplished a player as McHale?

I think this is make or break for DH. If he shits the bed here his stock plummets. I don't think he shit the bed in LA though, I just think no one wants to play with Kobe Bryant. The SVG deal is an inside issue we probably have no real idea about.

Add to that the fact that McHale already has his team on his side unlike either Mike Brown or Pringles and you get a situation where DH can drastically alter his NBA trajectory.

I think he's in an ideal situation where not much is expected of him (nothing compared to LA) and his team is actually glad to have him (unlike Pau and Kobe with Howard, seeing how they really wanted CP3 instead). Howard is no consolation prize for Houston. They were going to have Pau and end up with Howard. That's huge for them.

I agree pretty much with this. He needs to show some serious development/motivation right away in Houston or it's curtains. He seems energized to be part of the team now but only time will tell how it really works out.
