Josh Cohen at OrlandoMagic.com has imagined what Duncan, and several other top picks, might have looked like if the NBA draft lottery did not exist. If the worst team simply got the first pick and things moved on from there, Shaquille O’Neal would have started his career in Minnesota, LeBron James may have begun his career in Denver and Duncan would have been a Celtic.

He's wrong - if it was just about who has the worst record, Duncan would have been a Grizzly and the team would still be in Vancouver, tbh.... the combination of the lottery and Stern's retarded rule that Vancouver and Toronto couldn't get the #1 pick in 1996, 1997, or 1998 screwed them over, but the media ignores that and only cries about the Celtics missing out....

You have to go back to the beginning of the lottery to make assessments. After that first year, all else is a wash because you have no idea what the outcome would be from then on.
