So it does not become a Manu bash fest you can't use his contract that was signed this summer.

RJ's contract was the worst. But Bonner is close to that, TBH.

Richard Jefferson, was total garbage but will be Matt Bonner when they re-sign him to his legacy deal.

RJ.

But remember RJ's salary for the time that he was a Spur was actually reduced by that contract.

Years were added to RJ's contract to reduce his immediate salary. Then the Spurs moved him so that another team had to take the downside, i.e., the extended years that allowed the Spurs to reduce his salary.

All things considered, it wasn't a bad strategy by the Spurs.

RJ and Bonner. That Rasho deal was also bad, but at least they got rid of him, while the red shit is still here.

People may not like Bonner, but that has nothing to do with his contract. His contracts can't be said to be bad. Not sure he's ever earned 5M/yr. If it was over that, then maybe there is an argument.

Good observation. Had the Spurs been unable to move him, then giving him more years as opposed to letting him expire wold have looked terrible.

Pop obviously. He's cost us more championships than he's brought us, so anything more than a dollar is overpaying him

Manu's currently overpaid but his last contract was definitely worse. SA paid a guy $14 million to play useless FIBA ball for Argentina, proceed to get injured, heal on company time, play like shit after returning from injury, and help the Heat win the title.

Spurs almost never give out a bad contract, and when they do, they get out from under it.

1. Sending Kurt Thomas and taking on RJ's 30M 2 Years contract when he was a MLE player at best. Fortunately, he accepted to out of the second year and was resigned for 39M over 4 years. But the Spurs avoided paying luxury tax. The Spurs then unloaded his contract taking on Jack's contract which was a year shorter and giving up a first rounder.

2. Taking on washed up Steve Smith's 19M / 2 years and giving up Kerr in the same S&T. It was better to let DA walk, keep Kerr.

3. Offering Malik Rose 42M for 7 seasons. To unload the contract after 3 sesons, the Spurs gave up 2 first rounders. Malik was missed vs the Mavs in '06 and one of the first rounders was David Lee.

4. Offering Scola's rights to unload Butler's contract, that wasn't that bad.

5. Taking Mercer in a trade for almost 7M, he was cut after few games in the season.

I hope it wont, but that last Manu's contract could make the list some day.

OT: What just happened to Butler? I was excited about him years ago when I saw it on Spurs.com. That time I still didn't know this forum.

RJ averaged 19.6 points while player 82 games back to back seasons. Thats was worth more than the MLE. Moving an aging Thomas, Bowen and Oberto made some since. it didn't work out but none of those players became valuable players else where.
