According to the ESPN report, Abreu is a former MVP in Cuba, where he had one of the best seasons in league history in 2010-11, hitting .453 with 33 home runs and 93 RBIs across just 66 games.

In this year's World Baseball Classic, Abreu hit .360 (9-for-25) with three home runs and nine RBIs in six games. He would be likely to play first base in the Majors.

With the upcoming free agent class not being filled with too many premium players and with the success of Cuban players like Yasiel Puig, Yoenis Cespedes, Aroldis Chapman, and Kendrys Morales, Abreu may end up being one of the most sought after free agents this winter if he's eligible. He'll have to establish residency first. But apparently, this kid is a better and more powerful hitter than Puig and Cespedes. He's a 6'3, 250 first baseman and he'll turn 27 in January.

My guess is that the Red Sox will make a really hard push for him. Darkhorse team, Cleveland Indians, who are starved for a big right handed power bat to put in their line-up.
