He used this shit all the time at Oregon to run souble screens/fake screens to go deep+read option.

It really spreads the defense out so Vick/McCoy will have big running lanes down the middle. This is only a small part of a number of gimmicky formations he has in his arsenal ready for week 1 IMO.

Anyone think it will be successful? Not looking forward to playing eagles in week 1 with no film tbh

I think the Eagles are better off staying away from gimmick plays and let McCoy handle his business with some O-line support that can actually push people around.

Their o line should actually be decent this year. They got arguably a top 5 LT and G and their center is pretty good too. They were just fucked by injury last season.

Good pass rush but a shitty secondary. Maybe one of the worst in the league this year

What are the scenarios if you stack the box and corner blitz the QB? That O-line better be ready to for a firm pocket or shit like this will not end well for the eagles. However, i'm sure out of the gate it might work well for a while.

Numbers advantage on the outsides for a quick screen + a lead blocker

Teams with a good front four will destroy that formation.

Yup. Giants will eat them alive

Houston would too. Cushing could easily come free on a blitz because Watt would require a double team.

Defenses are slower in college, especially linemen. That's the big reason why a lot of spread systems that work in college don't work in the pros. Teams with more than one good lineman should be able to win the battle by rushing four, since only McCoy is available to help the O-line. So it's going to be hard to the center to call out the appropriate protections, especially against 3-4 teams that can rush with any of their four linebackers.

The success of the formation will depend on whether the yards gained by the positive plays offset the number of negative plays the team will experience. If this is combined with their fast-paced offense, perhaps defenders will get too tired to defend in space, which is what I assume Kelly is banking on, as well as teams not having big enough DBs to cover the tight-ends.

Teams like the Ravens and Seahawks that have dominant linemen AND big corners should destroy this formation.

the safeties are a little too deep against the tight ends lol

What did they do on this play? That looks like an easy first down for Harbor.
