DENVER - Denver Nuggets' guard Tywon "Ty" Lawson was arrested in an alleged domestic violence incident in Arapahoe County on Saturday, according to court records. The 25-year-old Lawson was arrested by sheriff's deputies on investigation of domestic violence-related harassment that includes either striking, shoving or kicking as well as a property damage charge, court records state. Both charges are misdemeanors.
A judge issued a mandatory protection order in the case, prohibiting Lawson from contacting the alleged victim.
Details on the arrest were not immediately available.
Lawson was arraigned in Arapahoe County Court Monday morning and released from jail on $1,000 bond.
In a Monday night statement, Nuggets General Manager Tim Connelly said, "We are fully aware of an incident involving Ty Lawson over the weekend. Per team policy and out of respect for the legal process, we will have no further comment at this time."
In October, the Nuggets gave Lawson a four-year contract extension worth $48 million, according to ESPN.
A four-year veteran, Lawson was drafted 18th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2009 and traded to the Nuggets in exchange for a future first-round pick.
Lawson also had a Jan. 29, 2013 arrest in Denver for flight to avoid prosecution stemming from a traffic case in Arapahoe County, court records say. In that case, Lawson was cited in April 2012 for careless driving, driving with a license under restraint and permitting an unauthorized person to drive, records state. He pleaded guilty to permitting an unauthorized person to drive and the other charges were dismissed.
