‘We definitely could be in the top three in the West,’ Hill recently said in a phone interview. ‘I don’t see why not. Kobe is making progress with his rehab [surrounding his left Achilles tendon]. I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes back at the beginning of the season or in training camp. I don’t know if he will. But I wouldn’t be surprised. I have faith in everything he can do. I believe in the Mamba. The sky’s the limit for him.’ [...] ‘It’s going to be tough, I’m not sure,’ Hill said. ‘We don’t know when Kobe is going to come back. But I’m confident we can make some noise. We still have so many good pieces with Kobe, Pau, Nash, Kaman, a lot of good bench pieces. We can surprise some people and make some noise.’”

With Jordan Hill's knockdown 3 point shooting ability, the Lakers can definitely make some noise

i know this is such a low expectation from laker fans, but honestly, as long as they advance in the second round while beating any of the #1-3 seed, i'd consider that a success this season, especially if that 1s rd opponent is houston or san antonio:lol

Don't forget Kirby and Nick Young's efficiency, Kaman's toughness down low, and Wesley Johnson's bench production :lol

In all honesty, the Lakers are not as bad as people make them out to be. A team with Pau in the middle will always be a playoff contender, add in supporting players like Nick Young, a healthy Kobe, Jordan Hill, and three-first-name's offense, and they could very well finish with a decent record as a 5 to 7 seed. Then you add in a 12+ FTA advantage against the opposition, and they could very well finish top 3 in the West over the likes of Memphis, Clippers, Spurs, GSW, and a whole bunch of other teams.

Fear people, the Lakers will have a comeback season, and win the championship shooting 37 FTs in the 4th quarter of Game 7.

The lakers might be better than last season though. their bench is deeper and they've got someone who isn't such a whore as DH to play at center. Kobe will be back sooner than originally expected.

Meanwhile some other western teams have also improved a lot from last season one way or another. Mavs are revamped and are ready to come back for a playoff seat. The pelicans have abundant potential, with a new name and several solid new signings they may turn out to be a black horse and surprise the league probably.

I was thinking the same, the Lakers best chance is to play terrible and let Silver fix the draft.

Lakers are in an awkward position. They are too good to earn the # 1 pick. Best case scenario is this. Kobe doesn't come back to the player he once was, Nash' injury woes continues and Gasol's foot continues to bother him.

I don't expect the draft to be fixed to give Lakers the first pick, but a top 3 pick.
