I proudly ranked DeJuan Blair in the top 20 when not many others put him in that neighborhood

Dave Telep

Czar of the telestrator, USA Basketball Developmental Committee

Interesting. Pop has always wanted to coach USA Basketball. Perhaps this is a way to commingle with people in that organization and have somebody from there to see first hand how he works.

I have been following Telep since the turn of the millennium and he's unequivocally the best scout out there. He has a vast knowledge of the east coast (particularly in North Carolina), but it has extended across the country over the years and he's probably the most well respected scout amongst his peers. I have had the opportunity to speak with him, probably a dozen times, over the years at various tournaments and I can also say that he's genuinely a great person.

Tremendous hire for you guys. ESPN had no idea what they had with him. No serious basketball fan will take their rankings seriously anymore, like it was before they hired Telep...

Wow. This is interesting considering TD and Manu are close to retirement.

This could be very interesting in the long term.

Curious what timvp has to say on this. Seems like one of those intellectual moves that's right down his alley.

Spurs Director of college scouting has been George Felton for 7 years. He is born in 1952 so he might want to have a new position where he will travel less or even retire. Telep might have been hired to take his spot a transition period where he will learn Spurs scouting methods.

I am not too optimistic.

His supposedly hits does not impress me. http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=221783&

I bet he is not the only one who was able to guess Chris Paul's future all star destiny when the dude scored 60 plus points in memory of his grandfather.

"And when it was time to offer up a final ranking, Westbrook was inserted into my top 100 at No. 66; the lone service to rate him as such." <- Even if he was the only one able to discover or rank Westbrook is not hit enough- it just means everyone else had a miss. By the time Westbrook entered the NBA draft- scouts already got intrigued and rank him highly.

"In 2004, my top-five point guards were Shaun Livingston, Sebastian Telfair, Rajon Rondo, Daniel Gibson and Jordan Farmar" <- Obviously a miss because he did not realize Rondo was the only blue chip recruit in there.

Got Dejuan in top 20 list? Too high and he missed out on the fact that Thabeet will be a bust. - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_NBA_draft

And his misses basically is longer.
