Microsoft to acquire Nokia’s devices & services business

REDMOND, Washington and ESPOO, Finland – Sept. 2, 2013 – Microsoft Corporation and Nokia Corporation today announced that the Boards of Directors for both companies have decided to enter into a transaction whereby Microsoft will purchase substantially all of Nokia’s Devices & Services business, license Nokia’s patents, and license and use Nokia’s mapping services.

mobile is transitioning to a race to the bottom. Android had a nice start to make cheap ass, al beit shitty phones for emerging markets.
Nokia has done really well, growing in this market with their Lumia 521 or 625. Amazing value, no lag, inexpensive phones for people who can afford it and dont have 4g in their countries.

True, they have some very competitive budget smartphones out.

Until their app market grows a bit more, Android will still hold some advantage mainly because of the mindset that you can get more bang for your buck by getting a cheap Android phone and still get to enjoy most of the bigger app market it has.
